I'm looking for a standard B6 A4 Avant 1.9 TDI 130 Quattro Sport with leather or leather/alcantara interior, 04 or 54 plate with less than 100k on the clock.

Is that particular model quite rare or is it the wrong time of year to be looking for a Quattro? Or a bit of both!

Whilst I'm here is there anything worth looking out for or knowing when I do eventually find one to go and look at?

    Cheers.

The 1.9tdi quattro sport avant is about the rarest model you will find and one of the most sought after. I looked for months when i was looking to buy and there was only a few came up but sold within hours. I went for the 2.5 in the end. Not for everyone but i love it and am glad i did.

Its deffo worth getting a quattro, it will cost you a few mpg to run but is solid in all conditions.

There are loads of what to look for when buying threads so have a dig around

Good job I'm not in a rush. I saw a red one on Autotrader with the exact spec I'm after a couple of weeks ago but it had some aftermarket LED headlights fitted and no mention of service history which put me off even enquiring. And now I haven't seen another since.

How long have you had your 2.5? How is it on fuel and is it reliable? When I was researching B6's I saw a few threads about expensive problems with the 2.5 that put me off.

Ive had the 2.5 about 4.5years now. Apart from servicing and maintaining the only major expense has been a clutch and flywheel at £750. Its been megga reliable and a brilliant tow car for the boat and caravan. Mpg isnt ever going to match the 1.9tdi but i cant say it really bothers me. low 40's on the motorway and low 30's around town is the best i think. But it is a v6 with 4wd so im happy. The engine is very smooth in comparison with the 4 cylinder 1.9. Have a go in one you maybe pleasantly supprised. There are issues with the 2.5 fuel pump which can cost in the region of £900 to sort but im of the opinion now that if it happens il just fix it

Any model of that age era you are looking at could potentially have problems. Don't rule out the 2.5 because of what trouble other people have had.

Fortunately, mine has already had a fuel pump repair before I bought mine. Albeit, a few more miles than what you are looking for. But that doesn't mean I won't encounter any other issues.

FSH is a good thing to have but it's not a guarantee at the end of the day. A used car is just that.

I hope you do find what you're looking for. I was aiming for an A6 2.5 Quattro but ended up with an A4 2.5 Quattro. But we are very happy with it.

I tried to find one 2 years ago, they don't hang around I tell you! Spotted a blue example with 73k miles asking for top money, I called the chap up on the day of the advert, he told me he got the asking price, and a guy picked it up 2hrs after his advert went online!

My son had an 02 1.9Qs Avant with heated leather which he sold about 3yrs ago for more than he paid about a year before. He replaced it with a 2.5 same spec but auto which I now have and we both prefer it and they are more available but need to have been cared particularly the timing when the belts are done

I wouldn't be bothered about considering just sub 100k cars. These cars are now 8+ years old, so the key thing will be servicing and history. Doesn't matter if its been to a main dealer or an independent. You want receipts and lots of them. Look to change the oil and filter every 10k as a matter of course.

Timing belt, water pump and thermostat should be changed at 60k or every 4 years. Worth doing auxilliary belts at the same time. Suspension will be tired so a full Meyle or Lemforder front suspension kit would be an investment if you plan to keep the car for a few years. Change ARB bushes front a rear at the same time.

Rear diff oil change should be on the cards too. Takes under a couple of litres of gear oil, but will last another 100k for trouble-free motoring.

I looked for a B6 1.9 quattro, but they are uber-rare! I bought a B5 2.5 quattro sport avant (aka Amtrak locomotive) which is the dog's danglies. Bring on the snow!

    ^^^

100k+ is nothing for these beasts if they're maintained.

Looks like it's going to be a long search. I know you can put big mileage on the 1.9 as have had plenty of friends and colleagues with VW/Audi's with that engine that have gone to the far side of 170,000 but I would like to buy as low mileage as possible. It's the other parts such as suspension and steering components that bother me more with buying a high miler rather than the engine.

I really don't want to get stung with a big bill but you could get that with any car I guess so perhaps I should consider the 2.5 as well. Not exactly loads of them around either mind! Big bills is exactly why I'm staying away from the newer 2.0 TDI engine. I had a 2.0 TDI 170 A3 a few years ago and the cylinder head cracked at 30k. Luckily under warranty. That engine seems to commonly go wrong in a big way hence my search for the B6 1.9. Plus I've always preferred the looks of the B6 and it's a nice size without being too big.

Thanks for the info so far

Road tax is a bit hefty on the 2.5

Mine's around five times that for a 1.9tdi  then again it's probably to do with age and location.

Indeed. Drives me crazy when my wife's A2 1.4TDI is just £30, or my mum's Volvo V50 1.6 eDrive is tax free.

I did go to see another 1.9tdiq avant today, complete with badly rusty and bodged front wings, front brake pads were thinner than a fag paper ( i kid you not) didn't /wouldn't get up to temp, guy wouldn't budge much on the £3495 price.

What was the mileage? New wings and respray £500, new discs and pads at front another £200, new thermostat and coolant £50. Sometimes it's worth a punt, but agreed £3,500 I'd rather walk!

I probably quoted too much for the wings. You can get 'em painted off Fleabay for £200 for a pair. Would rather buy them primed and gat 'a proper job' for another £200.

Split rear seats would make my saloon so much better, if there's an easy solution let us know.

I need an Avant. I know they aren't huge estates but the access to the boot is much better on the Avant for what I want.

Still looking unsurprisingly! Kind of given up on finding a Quattro as it seems hard enough to find a decent non Quattro. The prices they are commanding are a bit daft for a 10 year old car tbh... can't think of an alternative that fits the bill though so I'll have to keep being patient for the time being.

This is nice but I don't like the price Oaklea Motors Ltd

Whilst I agree with your reluctance to spend that amount on a car of that age, they are rare, especially sub 100k and the fact you're still looking means that you've probably found the market has reached it's natural price point.

I tried ages to find a quattro version of mine in the condition I was after and settled for a FWD 50k mile version and find it still very good.

They are out there but are so good people just don't want to give them up :)

Exactly mate. I don't think I'd be very reluctant to sell mines as I don't know how much I'd need to spend on a car to replace it with something any where as good. It would probably need to be new shape 2.0 tdi quattro

    Hi Buddy
    I currently have a 53 Audi A4 1.9 TDI 130 Sport Quattro AVANT

It's Sapphire Black, with full history, in great nick inside and out.
Runs pretty much perfect even with 136k miles
    Being 10 years old that's only 13k a year

Looks pretty much same as the Oaklea 2WD with same wheels but mine has cloth seats not leather

I know these cars well and I know mines a keeper, however I would sell if you are serious

    cheers
