B1 S2 ??

Hi guys

I was driving along today and the engine light comes on.

When i got home i did a scan and this was the only fault:

16522 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S2: Signal too High
P0138 - 35-00 - -
Readiness: 0000 1000


I've seen generic codes say Sensor 1 for the pre cat and sensor 2 for the post cat, And I've seen vagcom show bank 1 for the pre cat and bank 2 for the post cat.


Can someone tell me what sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 (B1 S2) is ?

You only have one bank as it's an inline 4cyl motor so ignore that part (b1), sensor 2 is the sensor behind the cat, sensor 1 is before the cat (nearest engine)

So my code point to the post cat sensor.

Mine was faulty, but it was mapped out after I took it to Badger 5.

I changed both sensors just to be safe but I'm still getting this fault code with the eml on the dash.


Any ideas ?

I fitted the sensors at a garage (so i could use the ramps) but we could only clear the codes with the generic reader so i drove home (no eml) and cleared the code with vagcom, I then did another 10 minute drive and as i still had the laptop with me i gave it another scan and the code was back.

Later that day i was driving along and the eml come back on.

Clearly an issue with the replacement sensor, or the fitment.

Not done a readiness test on the emissions system I assume?

I don't think its the sensor as this is the third one I've tried (original one, known working second hand one and now a new one).

Yeah the cats still in place.

No I've not done a readiness test, ill try and give that a go tomorrow

I managed to do a few tests today. This is what the readiness test is showing:

And this is what I'm getting on the block 036 post cat o2 sensor control test:

I wanted to do the block 046 cat test but i couldn't get the block 034 test to complete (you need to do this test first). After doing the tests i did another scan and a new code I've not seen popped up (as well as the other codes): 17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich P1137 - 35-00 - -Readiness: 0110 1001 Could this just be from doing the tests. Any ideas?

Is there anything else that can bring this code up, like a dodgy MAF or N75?

Check the wiring, a friend had some wires "burnt" by the exhaust heat, and the error code said it was a faulty sensor.

If your wiring is okay, maybe your catalytic converter has passed away...
