Avant Tailgate opens on its own...

Hi there

My S4 F/L Avant tailgate unlocks when it feels like, which isn't helpful... I assume its the touch switches getting full of water/salt etc, but any advice before I purchase some new ones, would be very welcome.

yea new switch. my brother had the same problem with his passat.
might be worth checking the solenoid though as could be that at fault

Thanks JBH. Any idea if the switches are available from the dealers? Ebay didn't show any up...

I know my brother got his from the dealer but that was VW but I would guess that Audi would have them.

I would check the solenoid first though as that was the problem on my golf. it was jamming on the open position

ok. You can hear the solenoid operating as you drive along. Only way to stop it opening, is to operate the lock button to lock all the doors.
It could well be the solenoid i guess, but how to tell?

ahh with you saying it stops when you lock it it sounds more like the switch.

either the switch, or some chafed wiring.

I would unplug the switches first off, and see if it stops. If it does then plug each one back in in turn to find the faulty one. If it keeps going with the switches unplugged you need to go over the wiring harness and try to find the damage.

Are the switches easy to come by? Dealers I assume?
