    Hi

I know there have been various comments made over the months about the slowness of the driver's side auto folding mirror and about it not moving out completely etc. Whilst the different motor speeds of the mirrors is not the end of the world, mine has started getting stuck about a centimetre from its proper outward position on a regular basis now, leaving me to close / re-open again or gently encourage it.

Could those who have had this problem let me know what solutions have been found (if any) as mine is in this Friday for the now well known power steering problem so I will be bringing this up and don't want the usual "this is a new one to us Sir" reply.

    Thanks very much

    Mine did it from new.

But it got better with time, now with 12 months / 30K on the clock its fine.

I got the 'sorry sir we've not heard of that one before' and gave up.

I had mine returned to the dealer twice to be fixed. First time they replaced the control switch (dunno why) the second time they apparently replaced the motor assembley itself.

It still does not fold as well as the passenger side (how hard can this be, its not rocket science!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif) however it no longer grinds to a halt before fully opening like it used to.

To me, this sounds like another unnecessary complication that costs more money but doesn't actually work very well.

Jeff - unfortunately for many of us with narrow garages they are a necessary complication, less hassle than doing it manually morning and night and presumably better for the mirror.

Perhaps the driver side mirror folding at a different speed is the norm for all of us, albeit a not very satisfactory norm. So much for Vorsprung durch technik.

    Perhaps we need a poll:

I voted yes for both of the above (from new) and as it wasn't the end of the earth, I just got the motor replaced in my first service a month or two ago. It's a fault and therefore should be fixed!

Mine did it a few times when new but hasn't once in the past 10 months. Used daily - a great feature if you need it!

It's an option, not standard on Sport models.

So so far, 83% of people have mirrors that fold at different speeds!

70% of people have a mirror that sometimes get stuck!

    Quality!

    Keep those votes coming in!

Mine went in for the control to be replaced the same day I picked the car up, they both stuck closed again, it then went back and had both mirrors replaced and control and it has still stuck but only once so far. W*nk /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, it's been looked at today and the motor is to be replaced to cure the "doesn't move out all the way" and the speed issues.

    Fingers crossed.

Having lost two complete mirrors on my previous Golf GTi 150PD (the second time along with the off side front wheel & suspension to a passing bus) what seems like money squandered its not actually so bad!

    Guys (..n Gals)

Sorry for digging up an old post and pardon my ignorance (haven't look in the manual... yet) but shouldn't the electric mirrors automatically fold inwards when the alarm is activated? And vice versa?

    Cheers KKP.

Nope, for some strange reason the only way to control it is with the switch whereas on a Seat Leon they work with the central locking.

Damn I didnt know this problem was so prevalent back in 06 aswell, seems it is the door modules huh, as I uprated mine to the G version & the problem has gone away as have others, also I to wondered why it took longer to close/open then realised with some tests & measurements of angles on the mirrors themselves from the doors, that the drivers has a wider position anyway which is why it takes longer to open/close, dohhhhhhh, lol

Facelift mirrors seem slightly more slick, not as loud, sit slightly further out when folded, but I like the wider & higher visible angles in the mirrors, had to mod the alum casting to fit which will post up soon enough, now just gotta figure the indicator wiring as door modules dont support them & newer door modules didnt like my cars network, maybe was duff unit, we'll see.

So are these things Auto folding on locking the car now or are they still Manual electric folding mirrors?

Ive just reordered my A3 with the babies after having a courtesy A4 with them and finding them useful. Thing is on the A4 they close when you lock the car and open upon putting the key in the ignition.

It was the lastest A4 Allroad.

It had the same mirror adjustment switch (as far as i could tell) as the A3 and all you had to do was leave it in the mirror fold position. The mirrors that intelligently folded and unfolded as nessasary.

    hope this helps.

Well after reading this when you posted about the auto folding system by audi, it popped into my head about something that happened the other day on the a3 as I have been wiring in my new mod folding & closure mod, the mirrors auto folded out a few times which made me think if there is a feature on the a3, that when it notices the mirrors are folded in & you start car & drive of do they unfold for safety, strange thing is I've now tested this & its not doing atm, so more tests needed, but I know it did this as I dont daydream that much, lol.

It could be when I was playing with wiring & folded them in via a signal wire whilst the switch was in unfolded position & the car intelligently realised they were in wrong position based on switch signal.

Had to amend my design slightly as the poxy door module removes any power to signal the mirrors when the car is locked, which was annoying cause my design was for the better absolutely perfect to use with the oem system aswell, well annoyed, but the alternate system works perfectly, love it.
