Hi Guys,

Ive just bought an A6 4.2 V8 2000 Model which is the 305bhp Tiptronic version. I got it for a seal but it has a clear gearbox fault.

When you start the engine all lights on the dash are fine. Move it into drive and accelorate and the torque converter make one hell of a clunk and its switches into limp mode. The car has no power from 0-15mph after that it drives perfect but no tiptronic mode or kick down available. I was still able to do big speeds. So it seems to change gears fine while going.

I plugged it in and got 2 codes:
1 = 17117 Gear 2 malfunction
2 = 17114 Gear / Ratio Malfunction

Firstly - could low oil or filters create this problem??

The car is on 165k atm you see.

I have been made aware it might be the TCM (Transmission control module) - if so what causes this??

Any help would be grateful!!

Paul
