Audi symphony faceplate changeover b5 to 8l

Hoping for some advise.

Have a 2001 s3 which i have imported to Canada from Japan and has original Symphony but am/fm frequencies are different here. i am aware b5 and 8l faceplate are slightly different size. i have a b5 NA unit with code. do not have code for japanese radio but it is working fine.

Q. can i remove 8l faceplate and plug into b5 unit or do i have to disassemble 8l faceplate and transfer over b5 board into 8l faceplate.

i know i can just buy a new modern unit and plug it straight in without all the hassel but i like the look of OE.

you'll probably need the code for the japan radio unit

i've done a faceplate switch (8L to 8L though) and the chip with the code in it is in the main unit. not the faceplate.

not sure if the faceplates will be interchangeable. might just need to do some dremel work?
