I've recently purchased a Symphony 2 from a breakers but it has no code. Will Audi give me the code from the units serial number or will I need the VIN of the donor car?

If it is not your original unit, Audi won't give you the code. You will need to buy it if I remember correctly.
There are eBay links that say they can decode your radio. Might be worth having a search on here as well to see if there is a way of gaining the code from some magical button sequence.

Took it to the dealers and they hooked it up and gave me the code FOC.
I know dealers deservedly take some stick but big thumbs up to Blackburn Audi for this.
