    Car insurance and the gender directive

    Here’s an article from ‘Which.co.uk’ (in case you haven’t seen this!) (Taken from Car insurance and the gender directive - Insurance gender discrimination rules - Insurance - Which? Money)........

    “Women drivers under the age of 25 will see their premiums rise from December 2012.
    Car insurance is one of the main areas that is being affected by the European ruling on gender. Historically, gender has been used alongside the type of vehicle, the age of the driver, the postcode of the driver and the insured’s driving history, among other factors, to calculate the car insurance premium rate of the individual.

    Likely impact on car insurance premiums
    Insurance companies will no longer be able to charge different rates according to the gender of the applicant. Claims data highlighting that young male drivers have considerably higher accident rates and claims costs than young women will now not be allowed to be used when insurers set premiums. A male driver under 21 is twice as likely to have an accident as a woman of the same age.

    This will mean that women drivers under the age of 25 will see their premiums rise, while their male counterparts should see their rates decline. There has been some speculation that insurers will maintain high premium levels for young men and raise rates for young women drivers to match these.

    What car insurers are doing
    Car insurers are adjusting their risk rating and pricing models to be able to offer gender-neutral quotations by 21 December 2012.”


    And the article finished with –

    “It's more important than ever to shop around when your renewal quote arrives, particularly if the gender ruling should lead to a fall in your premium. Renewal quotes rarely offer best value.”

    You may have seen a recent news article stating thatdrivers who attend a speed awareness course instead of taking a fine and pointson their licence may still see their insurance premiums increase.

    Just to let you know this would not be the case with ourcar insurance scheme on here. :)

    • Very very happy with what I was quoted

    • Well I'm waiting with bated breath for the quote to seeif it beats ‘X’ and ‘Y’....! It'll be great if it does and I must say that theperson called back exactly when they said they would, I have not had to wait inqueues and I'm impressed with the service on the telephone. THat's a majorpoint as many on here become very disillusioned with a company if they keepfailing to get through. Definitely good service and I'll report back again ifI'm happy with the quote.

    • Well I've got to say I'm extremely pleased with theservice I've received today. Spoke to two advisors, Chelsea and after she wenthome, David. Both extremely helpful and courteous doing exactly what they saidthey'd do. And to top it all my premium is less than my renewal with ‘X’ andhas £150 less excess too! I will recommend you to others and can say to folkson here, give them a try, they've been exceptional with me.

    Here’s some feedback from the last fewweeks –

    · Good service with a very good quote, cheaper by a large amountthan ‘X’(who I am with now), ‘X’ = £770. Prestige = £550!!

    · The quote worked out at about 10% less than any other similarquote with the same amount of excess etc. The service was quick and veryprofessional, all sorted within 20 minutes. Highly recommended.

    · I had just done my insurance on my P11 GT this year, changingcompanies in the process, when I had the opportunity to purchase a P10 eGT. Oneof my major concerns was what the cost of insurance was going to be. As most ofyou will know, if you insure a second car, your insurance on it starts with NOno claims bonus. After trying the company the P11 GT is with, AND severalothers, all were talking telephone numbers & putting silly restrictions ona poor 61 year old guy, who only wanted a project in his spare time. (thats meby the way). I thought I would try Prestige & steeled myself for a long windedphone call, the obligatory thousand questions followed by a pause in which timestands still, followed by the disappointment of another astronomical figure.Six or seven questions later, and hardly a pause in the conversation, I had aquote ! I had to ask for it to be repeated, then I asked if they were sure ?They were, and I took the quote up there and then ! Prestige had managed tofind me a company that would give me no claims discount, even on a new policy !I paid little more for the P10 eGT than I was paying for the P11 GT with tenyears plus no claims.
    In short, these guys worked out well for me. My gratitude goes toTony. Quick, efficient, helpful, we even managed a few laughs in theconversation !
    Take it from me guys 'n' gals, this is insurance with a human touch ! I wouldencourage anyone who needs a quote to give Prestige a ring, after all, whathave you got to lose ? They may save you money !


    · I've just rung up for a quote on the Astra in my sig below. You'rethe cheapest at £695 fully comp.

    · I have nowtaken out my Insurance through Prestige and Ill give you some information tomake a descision for yourself. 25 year old Male 8 years NCB IAM member SP30 May2012 - 3 points and a £60 fine Fully Comprehensive Social, Domestic andPleasure plus commuting to and from a single fixed place of work.10,000 miles ayear Modifications declared 12months Insurance came in at £525 from Prestige,which was £70 cheaper than confused.com. I then added the breakdown cover for£50 so my total premium for 12months insurance and breakdown cover is £575which is still £20 cheaper than any confused.com quote. I added the breakdowncover as it was half what the ‘X’ wanted to renew with them (I have been with ‘X’for 8years!)
    I am happy with that. :) Thanks very much Prestige.

    Congratulations to Chris Woodward of Focusrsoc.com who won our £50 Prize Draw!!! (Chris permitted us to publish his name). We will hold another draw around March time.

    Thanks also to those who have rung us for a car insurance quote in December. October was our record month but we are on course to beat that which is great considering December is historically a quieter month for renewal dates!

    Here’s just a bit of feedback from the last 4½ weeks –
    • Just gave Prestige a call and so far they have the best renewal quote. 1st year the ST was £1k, 2nd £750, 3rd £650 and 4th was £600 - they have just quoted £395 with bonus points and mods declared so quite impressed after the very small drop last year and not bad when I'm still just 26.
    • Just sorted the scala with prestige, saved over £120 compared to renewal note from existing broker. Well worth a call.
    • Spoken to these guys today, and they are to say the least fantastic! Extremely friendly, and have saved me loads on insurance. Incredibly happy, and would recommend to anyone!
    • Prestige were so helpful and quick and quoted me 177 a month which is the cheapest I have found on pay monthly plans! I’m with the above insurance n there a top company.
    • Prestige saved me almost £100 from the best quote I've had so far . £550 for living in N10 is great price as I had to pay around £900 last year. I've also tried ‘X’ again (don't know why as last year they quoted me £1200) and their best was just over a grand (insane). I'd like to thank Dave from Prestige who knew what he was talking about with no nonsense questions and he was the only agent I spoke to during my call and he did called me back as promised.

    January has started well also - this feedback was posted yesterday evening:

    • Very impressed. I hardly ever advertise products/services that I use. Of course by the early part of January my mind turns to Car Insurance. Well the nights are only just starting to draw out, and there's not a lot on the Television. I had my quote from my current provider, and yet again I'd said that I was changing. I'd visited comparison websites....Emailed the people at PRESTIGE KEEP MOVING CAR INSURANCE, and left them my details. The did try and ring me this morning - but I was at work. Rang them this evening, and spoke to a very nice girl called Chelsea. The quote was just over £35 cheaper than my current provider - BUT WITH ALL THE MOD'S, and coming in at about £40 than a very good policy provided by a well known car insurer. To get probably the best policy I have ever had for the Xsara, and at the cheapest price, I reached for the Debit Card. Oh, and I didn't have to wait on hold, listening to a recorded message on how my call was important to them.

    Here is some other recent feedback -

    • With the discount applied to forum users it's not only the best quote so far, but the flexibility of payment options and REALLY good interest rate on monthly instalments means I shall be calling you guys as soon as my car gets it's MOT. Also, thanks to Jane at your call-centre for being so darn helpful!
    • Highly recommend, excellent quote with mods. Nice to actually speak to an insurance company that actually understand your car and needs without the silly quotes!
    • Phoned today as needed rapid cover for a ( new to me ) car which i need to collect 300+miles away over weekend. Prestige could not have been better. The young lady was brill all done by mobile when driving from Surrey to Devon - price very, very good. Considering I have had company cars for several years and only started using my own car since 2011, recommend to anyone. Please give them a try and do yourself a favour.
    • I spoke with Nikki. Very nice and very helpful. Definitely not your typical insurance company.
    • Ria saved a small fortune with a very competitive quote from this broker.
    • Looking good, almost a 50% cut on the quotes I've had so far for the fiesta.

    I was shocked to see a recent poll stating that 41% of people hadn’t or wouldn’t declare the modifications on their car to their insurers! Amazing!
    Please always declare mods – we are mod-friendly anyway!

    We’ve been receiving quite a few requests for quotes recently from people who have seen the good feedback about our scheme but who are only halfway through their current policy elsewhere.

    I would just ask if people could call us at renewal time as firstly, we can then give precedence to people who need insurance, and secondly because people generally lose quite a bit financially if they cancel policies mid-term due to cancellation rates & fees. Also, premiums can change on a monthly basis.

    We will always endeavour to save you money and provide the best service we can but it’s better all round if it’s at renewal!

    Here is some recent feedback!
    • Thank you guys, just started a new policy, cheapest around and good policy details too....one happy customer here. Fully comp, all mods, business use, and confirmed 205bhp from 136bhp.
    • Just taken out insurance with prestige today. My renewal from was £722. £150 excess and no mods declared. Prestige quoted me £600 with £400 excess, with new alloys, lowered 50mm all round and gti leather interior, all covered like for like. Mk 2 saxo vtr (2001), I'm 33 with 3 years ncb. Had other quotes in excess of £1200, so overall I'm very pleased.
    • Can't recommend these guys enough, just been on the phone to them again, really friendly, very helpful, and they'll actually insure my Astra when i've finished supercharging it.
    • Big thanks to Prestige who have blown everyone else out of the water with their quote on my civic! Looks like I'm with you for the next 12 months.
    • WOW - Phoned up Prestige. Told them my renewal price and the lovely Chelsea said she didn't think they could beat it as it was quite low already (surprise surprise!) She then said she was faxing the underwritters and getting back to me. A phone call later and she has managed to reduce my premium by 20%!!!!! Fantastic news. In short, give them a ring. Phoned my existing insurer and they can't/won't move on price.
    • I was surprised at the quote I got. £1400 with modifications declared, & I was getting £1450+ with no modifications before.

    January (historically the quietest month) was our equal 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] best month for policies ever! And here is some recent feedback to reflect this –

    • I just want to say how very happy i am to now be covered by prestige! They offered me the cheapest quote and declaring all of my modifications! I would recommend them to anyone with a modified car!
    • I just been on the phone to you guys. Just want to say was very happy with my quote. Managed to bring me down by half what I'm paying now. Also managed to beat every quote I have had online so
      I will be taking my cover out with this lot when my actual renewal date comes around. Also would like to say great customer service on the phone too and when had to be put in hold was not kept on hold for too long. Even when I first rang up and was on hold and someone answered but everyone was still busy that dealt with quotes guy took my number and called me back within 5 mins. I'm very impressed I would most definitely recommend anyone on here to give them a call when due day comes. Cheers.
    • Just had a quote from you guys - I'm a first time driver so have been getting silly quotes until i rang you.
    • My renewal came through at £617 which was ok as i paid £700 last year so phoned up, had a chat with a guy called David, and we managed to get it down to £545, not too shabby as its the cheapest insurance i have had in about 5 years.

    I’ve been asked about our stance on these so I thought I would add this to our thread.
    There is no charge for these on our insurance scheme and we don’t need to be notified when they are changed, provided that they meet, and are fitted in accordance with, the vehicle manufacturers’ specifications, and are in a roadworthy condition.

    • Epic company, less than 500 quid for the year fully comp......beat my renewal quote by nearly 200 quid......thank you very much.
    • Deal done. great price and all mods covered. Happy bunny. You now have a new customer. My last insurer covered me for 8 years. You now have me for ages. Lol.
    • Just had my renewal through, so thought I’d try these as I’d seen them on the facebook page. Called them up, very friendly company, (and the girl sounded lush). Few minutes later I had my quote through. Saved me £48 on my renewal deposit and £140 on my annual quote. £595 new price!! happy days, so cheers guys. Great stuff!!
    • Had a nice chat with an advisor from Prestige. One very happy bunny.
    • Spoke to David who was very helpful. Have saved £148 on my renewal quote which I am very happy with - all mods included. Good service and phone answered quickly. Another new customer for Prestige.
    • Just sorted out my policy with these guys. Think I got a good deal with all mods declared and only 1 year ncb. Think they were the most helpful insurance company I have ever spoke to and would recommend them to anyone before any other company. Glad I could join these even left my existing policy 6 months into it. So thank you Prestige.

    • Just thought I'd add a little feedback from personal experience... just phoned the guys at Prestige and got a quote, including my modifications for less than my current renewal (which didn’t include the mods!!)..Even using the direct debit payment method, Prestige have saved me about £120 on my renewal.... I shall be calling next week to sort out the policy with them - GREAT WORK!!!
    • Thanks Prestige just saved me £82 on this years renewal! goes someway to covering the road tax!
    • Just had a quote from you guys and I am very pleased with it you have got yourselfs a new customer come renewal date.
    • Really impressed with the service and the quote. I was that happy I took my policy out there and then.
    • I would like to give a bit of feedback as I have just taken out a policy with you guys. Very helpful and understanding staff - I was dealing with Chelsea. Beat my previous quote by £60 on a fully modified 380bhp, I was very impressed. Also, the scheme offers a like for like replacement on mods so very happy. Also, additional mods can be added to your car as required (after discussion and agreement). Sent out my cover note within 5minutes to allow me to get tax that same day. Would definately recommend this company if you need to renew your policy. Thanks a lot.

    Please don’t forget to ring us if your car insurance is due in May. April has been our best month of the year so far for policies taken out which is great news!

    Here is some recent feedback from the last 8 weeks -

    • Prestige managed to save me a massive £360 on my insurance.
    • Prestige have quoted with all mods have beaten xxx and yyy by £120 for the year. Give them a call!
    • Sorted mine yesterday, best quote I had by a long way.
    • Sent in the online form on Sunday, got quoted today, was the lowest I could find and saved £115 with the club discount. Can’t thank you guys enough.
    • Just want to thank David and the team at Prestige today, even though they were low on staff they took their time, were very understanding of the mods and there was no pressure at all into buying now like other insurers had throughout the afternoon, they also smashed the cheapest renewal quote I could find including mods like for like etc.I hope to be using you for any car I buy in the future and will certainly recommend you anytime I can. I am incredibly happy at knocking a substantial amount off my renewal from last year too.

    85% of our customers due for renewal last month renewed their policies!

    Here is some recent (& a little witty!) feedback –

    • Called today to get a quote and was really impressed. Despite being named after a fairly average bun and a part of London I'd really rather I ever went to again Chelsea was absolutely superb. Answered all my stupid questions and tried her hardest not to sound bored, promised a recall later in the month when I'd put a list together of all the mod receipts and quoted me a very good price.
    • I am over the moon with the level of cover and price I have got. These guys are legends, they beat all other quotes i had and also managed to get the price on my insurance down to less than what i was paying. Moses at Prestige was very polite and easy to deal with and made it all that little less painful. Thanks again for beating all other quotes and giving such a great discount.
    • My recently auto-renewed current policy had managed to drop several of the mods from the past year so would have been basically pointless. I messaged with the list of mods from my progress thread and asked about the easiest way to get a quote. After a quick response, I filled out usual style online form. 10 minutes later, I received a call from Chelsea who confirmed the details from the online form and confirmed the mod list was correct (fortunately without actualy going through it). A bit of funky music later and I had a quote which was cheaper than my current policy but also included ALL the mods on a like for like basis. Unfortunalely your not allowed to take out a policy whilst already having a current one. So, a quick goodbye to Chelsea to get on the phone and cancel my current insurance...After cancelling my original insurance, I called back Prestige and spent a short while on hold whilst being connected to Chelsea again to take out the policy. Again, she confirmed details on me and Mrs P, car details, the list being accurate and previous claims etc... and then terms etc so took a while but at least everything is correct... before paying. So, a decent price and pretty painless with no hassle for some fairly hefty mods. Only the cheesy music stops it being a 10/10.
    • Just had a very pleasant chat with Chelsea and Prestige have beaten xxx by £102 this year. Suffice to say have taken the policy out, great service and the best price I was able to come by this year.
    • Gave one of your very pleasant operators today (didn't catch her name sorry!). It was a very good customer experience - and all hope is not lost yet...When taking potential mods into account, your increase was a LOT less than the cheaper company was. Very many thanks for taking the time and effort, all in all a top job.
