So, for a two lap shootout around a track, courtesy of Best Motoring ... who do you think will win?

    :shutup2:

(Is it possible to add an embed YouTube clip function to ASN?)

    Gracias!

My past experience with the cooper s and civic type r made me feel quite inadequate, oh well...guess that's why I'll be taking up some driving lessons soon.

Considering the S3 had a 40bhp minimum advantage and cost an arm and a leg i would be very upset had it NOT won !!

STOP PRESS ...next week we go to the salt flats to test the micra and smart car against Thrust 2 :)

To tell you the truth, my money were on type-r ! Or if it was the R26R instead of the Megane 225... Never knew that MPS was the king of understeer. I don't think it was the driver's fault!

yup, 3 laps around tsukuba isnt enough to show what the type-r can do. Give it more complex corners and maybe 8-10 laps and see the turbo cars melt themselves. Suppose the stock brembos on the renault and honda would help it when the race goes on longer though.

btw, did you guys see the rev limit on that thing? nuts...

Given the time attack time of the Honda was around 1.5 seconds faster than the S3's, I think the S3 did pretty bloody good. Not sure what the Civic Type R weighs, but I'd guess there's a significant saving over the S3.

Although, to be fair, while the MINI did a great job for the lack of power it had compared to the other cars, I think he may have been holding the others up a bit.

I was amazed at how quickly the S3 zoomed past the Mazda off the line though. The S tronic and quattro combination was used to great effect there.

The s3 is much faster.Did the cooper have automatic gearbox?I didnt see him shifting. The type r must be very fun with the rpm's going up to 9000.

Thats a good video, obviously the S3 is in a difference class to the rest. But look at the quality of the interior and how quite the cabin was compared to the rest.

    Audi = win :wub:

Just sold my Honda Jap Type R (FD2) and sadly miss her big time. I hope the S3 lives up to my expectations. The FD2 had the firmest chassis and handling I have ever experience....sublime all round car. Stock rev limits at 8250rpm with about 235bhp standard. Can understand how it has the edge on the track but in everyday life I hope the S3 has it sown up in straight line and off teh mark with 4WD.

    ...roll on 1st March.

elton, the S3 is no doubt a very nice and fast-ish grocery getter, but when at the track or a nice country road, a CTR would give you more fun. The engine is a little piece of gem in that honda.

    Hope you'll enjoy the S3.

Agree with this, the CTR is much better than the S3 about 10% of the time.
But IMO the S3 knocks spots of the CTR the other 90%. Which you would hope so as its MUCH more expensive.:scared2:
The S3 is a fine car. Its the first car Ive owned for more than 18months and still have no imediate plans to change it!
    Enjoy:icon_thumright:

    Cheers

+1 Paul. I've had mine 20 months and have no plans to change it. Why would I when there are so many proven tuning options out there that can transform it from the very capable car it already is to one that knocks balls out of the park?

They're all great cars in their own right, and I'm glad this forum has so many members who can be objective and see the pluses of others cars (BMWs and Caymans for the most part!) but for me there's no contest :yahoo:
