no that was once it was mapped, a stock S3 wouldnt stand a hope against a 135 or 335, but to be honest the S3 needs a map to turn it to what it should be, but as ive not driven a stock or mapped beemer i couldnt say what they were like pre or post mapping

Aw didnt realise them Bm's were that quick to not be too fast behind a remapped S3. Ye I do agree a S3 needs a map, feels restricted in standard form.

well the beemer has better instant response due to its larger CC and i am suffering from a slipping clutch at the moment as well, once ive got that changed out week after next and its bedded in, there will be some more runs see how they stack up

Ye, feedback how you get on. Has your mate got any intentions to tune his bm. I think in terms of technology, BMW is one of the leading in the world, No doubt some audi fans will disagree.

The 135i/135i twin turbos work in a way were each turbo only feeds power to 3 cylinders each so they can be smaller with no lag. Peak torque arrives at something like 1500 rpm and holds it through most the rev range.

not that i know of, hes got a heavily stripped and modded Z3 M Coupe pushing 450ish hp as his play thing so the 1 series is his daily drive so has kept it stock

I nearly bought the 135i instead of the S3 last year (really wish I had instead now!!).

Both cars in stock form the BMW is a bit quicker. With a full exhaust, map and CAI etc, you'll be knocking on the door of 400BHP in one of those little babies. It will be quicker than the S3 with similar mods, as it takes a bit more than the above to get an S3 to that kind of power output. Not really a surprise when you consider it's got over 1000cc more capacity and 2 turbos though really.

    Looks gash though.

i wont disagree with that....from engine terms

its the interior thats the worst part of the BM's, even worse place to live than our beloved Audi's which aren't amazing....must be the German thing, suppose we can thank our lucky stars that we dont have 911 interior....i think they are awful!! :) beautiful outside though!!

Ye, seem more laid out in a more functionally way rather than to please the eye. Although a lot of people who have owned a modern BM say they are better than an Audi in terms of quality.

Beanoir - im with you on the look. They look nice but theres something about them which make you look twice and think hmmm, its nice but....
Seen a few nicely styled 1 and 3 series Bm's, a lot of nice visual parts out there such as carbon fibre :)

LOL that quite funny because thats what I always remember how nice and chunky the steering wheel felt. Nice driving position too.

good to hear Ritch....i dont think anyone was slating the M3 at all, just knew that it wasn't out of the ball park when compared to the S3 - I wana test a stage 2+ car as hearing lots of things regards to how savage they are.

    Told you!

Your friends S3 was prob around 300-320 bhp max. Now imagine stage 2+ 370 bhp :icon_thumright:

My S3 when stage 1 was quicker than a pals E46 M3 Cab and as quick as anothers Coupe, now stage 2+ (THS i/c too) it pulls significantly over the cab (friend has sold the coupe). Know a guy who's woned a couple of CSL's and even though a (very quick) 40 mile trip to nearby Skegness on B roads etc killed my back, I'd still like one, what a sound!

old thread i know but… how much to tune to stage 2 or 2+
    remap, £400-500
    intake,£200+
    full exhaust,£1000
    clutch,£1000

and thats without brakes, suspension, roll bars.
and will still never drive as good as an m3

i have an s3 and its so boring to drive yeah is can be fast in a straight line but lacks soul. my 1990 saph cossie is more enjoyable to drive.

    add a £1k system of N20 to an m3 and bye-bye stage2+ s3.

but id still be happier in a slower m3, in fact I'm selling the s3 to buy one.
