What is the difference? What's the most cost effective tbe exhaust? As far as I can tell its a 3 inch piece of pipe with bends, flexies and silencers in, how can that be nearly 1k?

Yeah because of course they spend nothing on R&D and stainless pipe and decent welding is mega cheap these days

Well obviously, but I still can't really understand how £1000 is justified for a full system with decat no matter how much the research and development or the level of welding. It's not titanium, its just stainless which is a cheap material. Saw a post where apparently a front downpipe for a focus RS is £150 but for the S3 is around £350, how much more research and development goes into that than the S3 item?

Make it yourself then. Nobody's forcing you to buy it. Nobody's got a gun to your head.

Errm people are willing to pay 1k, so that's what they charge for a bit of kit ure going to put on your expensive car and expect to do its job well.

The point I am making is the cost difference for essentially the same product for different cars and if there is a more cost effective way of doing it. I am going to get TBE exhaust anyway but before I sink £1000 into a miltek I was wanting to know if there was something without the 'scene tax' like there is for other cars that does essentially the same thing.

This isn't a Ferrari titanium system welded up with unicorn sperm, its a mass produced stainless steel item. Miltek isnt what it once was when it comes to quality, so if there is another system out there cheaper I would look into that.

Also what is the difference between the sportback system and the 3 door? Is there any part of the 3 door system I can use on my sportback, ie the down pipe, or is the whole system different?

If you're willing to spend £1000 on a milltek you're best off getting a quote from a company that can custom make exhausts, the welds on millteks aren't great and don't last. And I'd imagine you could use the down pipe off a 3 door, however you'd need to check part numbers of the two downpipes to see if they are the same.

What is a reputable company likely to charge for an exhaust, cat back. I literally have no idea what I should be paying.

I believe BCS do some good quality exhausts and come in slightly cheaper than miltek. Could be worth looking into.

BCS only do a turbo back. They are very very good :) Stainless steel isn't a cheap material mate… okay it isn't titanium but titanium is about 5x the price of stainless. Stainless also comes in different grades, a high grade stainless is very expensive especially once shaped and rolled into an exhaust.

Stop spouting and do some research anyway, a quick google found this:

Focus RS Mk2 Full Turbo Milltek Exhaust System - Ford Focus RS Mk2 - Exhausts and Manifolds - Miltek Exhausts - Milltek Focus RS Mk2 Full System Exhaust (Inc Cat) - SCC Performance - Focus RS Parts Specialist

Nearly £1500 for a full RS system. Its under £1200 for a BCS turbo back for the S3, fitted too. Bargain!
