Audi A6/S6

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this but was told this was the place to come to for advice. I'm really interested in getting an Audi and I've recently fallen in love with the A6/S6. After researching I've realised that as amazing as the S6 is, the running costs seem to be ridiculously high therefore I'm now looking into getting an A6. Although the sound and power of a S6 5.2 V10 would be brilliant I've decided the costs of the A6 4.2 V8 should be lower. Does anyone own one of these? If so can you tell me what running costs are like please and how reliable the car is? Can you only get automatic transmission? Do they suffer from any common issues?

Any help would be gratefully received.

I've had both S & RS 4's with the same 4.2 V8 and was getting between 20/30MPG, I never really had any issue with the engine but my cars were under 3 years old during the time I had them, they can suffer with timing chain issues (engine out job) and they do require decoking http://www.amdtuning.com/rs4-de-coke I would also only run the engines on high ron fuel vpower etc. Other than that they are a solid lump, but remember they require 8 litres of oil so servicing is still not cheap. The 4.2 was only available as an auto.

But the performance & sound will put a smile on your face.
