Hello

Hopefully I am not breaking any rules by posting or anything just really need some help please. I have tried to have a look on the forum but can't see anyone with the same problem as me.

I bought my A4 and central locking wasn't working when I bought it. I assumed it would just be a case of a new battery in the fob so I wasn't too fused.

The car locks and unlocks off the key no problem. I took it to a garage and they said it will need a new key and programming. So I rang Audi and ordered a new key (£250:frown new: ) 2 weeks later it came so I drove up there and they programmed it but said the central locking was still not working. They said I would have to book it back it and could cost up to £1000.

Basically my question is can anyone else advise on what I can do as I'm sure I could get it done cheaper than that or is there anything else I can try?

Like I said it locks fine with the key just not off the fob. The new one or the old one just does nothing when I press the buttons.

Thanks in advance any help is really appreciated. It's a 2009 A4 2.0 TDI 140.

Thanks again

Welcome to the site.

It would need diagnosing properly to see if the car is seeing the remote functions being received 1st, if not then programming needs to be checked & then work backwards through each system in the chain, from antenna to modules.

Does it have keyless entry as in door touch controls to allow opening with using the remote?

Whereabouts are you located?

Hi thanks for your welcome and quick response

I am in the North West (Wigan) I can go wherever needed just want it sorting really. Hopefully without paying £1000. It was ok at first but now with the kids and shopping etc its really frustrating. If I don't put the key in the ignition within like 5 seconds the alarm goes off and looks like I'm stealing it :/

Cheers

So even when you open the door with the key, if you don't turn ignition on, it doesn't recognise this as open as such & then the alarm goes of, ok it needs diagnosing in variety of ways to see what it does see on each door & key.

They have programmed a new key to the car though right or were they not able to complete the remote functions because the car didn't allow sync?

When I unlock the door with the key my headlights come on and the little red light on the door stops flashing. IF I don't open the door the alarm will not go off but if I do after about 5-10 seconds the alarm goes off if I don't put the key in the ignition.

I rang Audi and said my central locking wasn't working and I was advised that I needed a new key. They ordered me one I took it to them. They had it for about half an hour and just said I have only paid for a new key and installation which with normal programming did not fix the central locking issue and I would have to book it back in (something along those lines) The key I got off them does exactly as the key I already have.

Its as though it doesn't fully recognise the locking status & thus that's why alarm goes of, I'm thinking maybe drivers door has the issues whether its the lock or other, what is your preferred path as it would need fully checking over, which could take several hours to do in all honesty.

We could have a look at it to see if we can trace the issue, we've got a place in Salford under cover.

That would be great. I am off the first week in February If I could bring it one day that week in the morning and leave it with you for the day or something that would be great. Thanks for all your help

Ok best to ping me a PM so I can check with my colleague in Salford as I work all over the place.

My car has developed this exact issue yesterday. Was the problem resolved? And what was it?

Hi all.

Just an update. I didn't get anyone reply with any answers for this issues so I assume that nobody had fixed it without main dealer help.
I did have my car booked into a dealer to have the central convenience module flashed and keys recoded for the 23rd but I have managed to fix it myself.

As I said earlier, I scanned my car with vcds and didn't get any relevant errors. The only error I got was a reoccurring error stating that the car had gone into power management (essentially the battery is knackered).
This must have been what caused the keys to lose their programming to start with. The confusing thing is that with the B8 A4 and A5, the remote is automatically reprogrammed everytime the key is placed into the dash slot and the car turned on. This was not happening with mine.

I was out of options.
I then thought that maybe the power management knocked out the central convenience module (to save power for starting) and this had caused the unit to restart but not quite started back up correctly. Remember, vcds was showing no errors for the ccm.

I tried looking on vcds for an option to completely restart the module but no job.
I decided to find the ccm (which I located inside the boot, on the right hand side and is a fairly large unit with about 6 cable connectors going into it.
I unplugged all of the connectors and left the car for 2 hours. MAKE SURE YOU DONT SHUT THE BOOT, YOU WILL GET LOCKED OUT, because the ccm controls all remote functions and all lock functions including the boot switch on the drivers door.

I got back to the car, plugged all of the connectors back in, put my key in the dash, started the car, pulled the key out and hey presto, key fob works again!!

So before you give up and take your car to the stealers to be reprogrammed, simply unplug the module for a couple of hours and it will be reset and should work again!
