    Hi everyone,

I'm finally a proud owner of an Audi A4 1.9TDI 130bhp , however I am not too keen on the Land Rover look that it carries lol, so I have ordered myself a set of FK AK coilovers from ebay. I understand these are the entry level coilovers but some people have given it good reviews.

Someone was telling me that once the coilovers are installed I will need to let it 'settle' before I consider lowering it to my desired height. Is this true? If so what height should I lower it to before it settles and after it settles?

Your advice is most appreciated

My bro had those coils on his avant - harsh ride!

Just donr go über low at first as they tend to bed in after a week or so and drop by another 10mm or so.

Thank you for your replies*Big Smile
My coilovers just arrived, I can't wait till I fit it on.
I was thinking of lowering it by 50mm all round, will it affect the handling really badly?

Your audi looks amazing shaunus83, and that is the ride height I wish to go for. Sorry if I sound like a noob but when you say 'solid ride' do you mean its a good thing?

And if thats the same car that Im thinking of, Ive seen it around, I thought it was just on springs?!
Unless its a new owner and they've put coilys on??

I have fitted in my new coilovers and I must say it looks amazing after lowering it from what it looked like on stock suspensions .
However I have a problem and wondering if anyone can guide me. My car now feels extremely bumpy, it has been a week since I have put them in and have driven about 400 miles since hence the springs have settled even lower. As of now it is sitting veryy low (almost no gap between the wheels and the arches), as much as it looks nice...it doesn't feel nice :sadlike:.

Will raising the height get rid of the bumpiness? If so how much should I raise it by?

Btw it is the FK AK coilovers I opted for.

In a word "no". Thats the price you pay for cheap coilovers.

Hi Mark...I'm waiting on V-Maxx coilovers for mine, they should be here in the next few days...once they are on I can let you know how the ride is. V-Maxx are fairly cheap (around £560 for the fixed damping units) but are meant to be pretty good for the cash.....time will tell!

Pics help more in these threads!

I had these coilovers on my golf and the ride was hard, i dont think raising it will help that much at all tbh. could be harder as there is less spring travel. Cheap coilovers dont have adjustable dampers either.

I've been looking myself mate but I'm thinking about the springs and shocks route as you get quality for £500 but not the extreme lows.

I had vmaxx on my golf, they were hard but not ridiculous, had for a few years the height didn't seem to make a lot of difference.

It comes down to what you want really from the drop, due to the alloys im running i dont think springs alone will give me the right look, & if im ever going to get 10J alloys on the front of mine i have to go for coilovers.

I've always used Eibach springs in the past the ones that give a 50mm drop, but be warned the last two times i've fitted lowered springs they've knackered my shocks up over the course of the cars life with me.I believe its due to the fact that the spring compresses less therefore the shock ends up doing more work and ends up shortening the life of the shock somewhat.
