audi 1.9 tdi smoking

    i have a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust smell very diesely
    losing a small amout of water but very little
    checked the header tank for bubbles and cant see any
    checked for sludge under oil cap all ok
    engine runs fine no missing
    any ideas?

    Sounds like it could be overfueling / not burning diesel properley.
    Im not sure how the fuel pump is timed on these (not sure if pumped or common rail?) but would be one of the first things I would check.

    Also, make sure all the boost pipes from the turbo / intercooler are all in place.

    White smoke and a strong diesel smell is usually poor combustion, does it do it all the time or just when started, under load etc.
    If its just when cold could be glow plugs, does it get good runs??
    The engine is a Pumpe Duse engine and has individual cam driven pumps on each injector, along with electronic solenoids controlled from the ECU..

    Alex, me and a friend at were looking at the ole Cav GSi2000's at lunch today... Great days..
