I thought it was going to be about you looking at buying a BMW!! How wrong was I?

I have pretty much the same views as you mate, without wanting to seem like a heartless bar steward: I think it's a shame, but if it doesn't have a massive effect on my life (e.g I don't them/have no interest in what they do) then I don't feel the need to get upset or dwell on the subject too much as my life is generally uneffected.

    End of essay.

I thought it was discusting that Winehouse was front page news ahead of the mass murder in Norway. At the end of the day she has killed herself.

    You got to be joking?
    she's front page news?
    FFS, thats shocking.
Goes to show people will buy more news paper with celebrities on the front over some proper news.

One reason why I don't read the news paper.

Reesy, I would have bought another BMW if this Audi never came up. A nice E39 sport touring.

Hmmmm. Celebrity deaths... and feelings about them...

I guess it is purely down to circumstance.

Take Colin McRae for example. Spends his life blitzing cars round like a loon and then dies in a helicopter accident. I did think that was a tragic loss.

In fact, any celebrity that dies in that sort of circumstance, where there is nothing they can do about it, is a waste and a shame.

Amy Winehouse on the other hand. Well, what can you say? Someone who has used and abused drugs for many years, been in and out of rehab a thousand times and then died of a 'tragic' dug overdose?

    Tragic based on what?

Who is to blame for her death.... Oh wait, that would be her then. If you spend your life stuffing things into your nose and veins, then you roll the dice and you take your chances.

In my opinion, now that she is dead, it shows teenage fans the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. Singers, celebrities and whatever else are looked up to by the youth of today, and to see them doing drugs and abusing alcohol ultimately means that fans/kids/teenagers/whatever think that that sort of behaviour is OK, when frankly it isn't.

No sympathy for those who peg it based on substance abuse. Much like I have no sympathy for those who drink drive.

    Architects of their own destruction.

I mean, come on people, lets be fair. They tried to make her go to rehab, and she said no, no, no.

I don't know where everyone is, maybe they're actually doing work... I hope not, as surely that breaks the Pub rules?

Car related talk - I have a strange squeak, which I'm 98% certain is coming from the pass front wheel hub area, it's not a suspension squeak, and only makes a noise when the car is moving. I will try and get a sound clip of said noise, but thought I'd put it up here as you two don't spend a lot of time in the 8L section asking questions like these!

Westy - I'll make the league now, to pass the time.

My instant reaction would be brakes.

Have you whipped the wheel off and had a wiggle?

I've got a load of work done today due to the Pub being so quiet.

Yeah sort out the league and that'll kill another 10 mins.

Also, fun thing to try if you are a normal, non cycling commuter: set your radio to AM and go up from around 500 (can't remember exact number) and eventually you will find that the revs of the car come through the stereo, the noise is pretty raspy, but I thought it was pretty cool for about 10 mins.

Had the wheel off mate, and the wear on the discs is perfect, with no lip on the edge, so I know it's not the brakes binding. I might jack her up and leave the wheel on this time, and see how if there is any difference. Any more ideas would be appreciated, if not I'll report back tomorrow.

It is rather satisfying when you see the finished product but its not something i'm going to be addicted to.

I picked up the £1200 worth of racing bike and my mate said I can give it a go before deciding if I want it or not. Bloody hell it's good! It's so light and effortless compared to my mountain bike.

I was gunning it up and down the road and up hills like they werent there.

I'll probably buy it but I need to work out whether the frame is too small for me or not

Looking forward to my next ride now.

Been off doing more bedroom stuff today, had to wire in some extra sockets...which was a nightmare. Check out the lovely wiring the previous electrician left me:

All wallpaper is now off, plasterer coming tomorrow night to have a shifty and create a made up extortionate price :moa:

Then it's the final (big stretch) of putting it all back together. Back in work tomorrow, which I can't be bothered with. If I could, i'd renovate houses for a living, I really enjoy it.

I had a mk1 escort a few years back. Had all the plans to restore it...but then I got married and had kids :( Sold it on to a mate who's a mechanical engineer so giving it all the love it needs. I think he's getting close to a rolling chassis with it now, i'll have to go see it sometime and try get a few pics.

I helped my mate striped out a MK1 for him to fit a skyline engine and race it.
Thats as far as he got with it. :(

Loving the spaghetti junction of cables. I bet he takes pride in his work.

Wow how quiet has it been today. Iv been flat out all day til now.... so that's my excuse haha. Good link on the Brooklands Scott. Got me moist a little. My old man had one when I was a young un.

So weasty you keeping that bike dude?? What size is the frame?? Smaller bikes are easier to throw around, Put Yr seat up higher. But will depend on arm reach.

Nice nest crazy. Me and the missus have done a couple of renovations. We did one in oswaltwistle it was a right dirty stinkin hole, you wouldn't belive the state of it when we got it. Took us about 8 months to do it, eve's and weekends. was good fun but it saps the life outa ya big time. Luckily we sold it to two lemons just before the Market dropped on it's ass ;)

I'm going to cycle to work on it tomorrow and see how it is. I think the frame is the right size I'm just not used to being so low down as I've never ridden anything other than mountain bikes.

If I make it to work and back tomorrow without being killed, I'll probably have it. Got my eye on 3 more rides coming up so I need a road bike for them ;)

Road bikes are ace! It does take some getting used to, as like you say the front end is often low. When you get back on your mtb you'll feel like you're riding an arm chair!

As for the house damo, this is our second renovation. First was worse, but with a little one we don't have as much time so we made sure this one wasn't as big a job. It certainly does sap the time though, 10 hours on the job today, 12 on Saturday. Hopefully it'll look ace when done though. Straight onto the next bedroom as the little 'un needs to move out of hers for when baby dude comes along.

Morning all. Back in the office today. I ache after I was knelt down all day yesterday sorting the damn sockets out! bah humbug. Quite a busy day at work, got a meeting at 11 with my boss, to check progress. I also need to pop to the local barclays bank. When I was at my parents at the weekend my dad gave me a barclays letter. Turns out I have £190 in an account that I had completely forgotten about, yay! I just now need to start the process of getting the address changed etc so I can get my money out.

No doubt it'll buy a new pram :wtf:

Scott, your garden looks loads better now, well done dude! Is your decking not a bit slippy though? Looks like it'd be great fun when raining. Like a personal ice rink!

    I'm alive :yahoo:

I did time myself on the mountain bike but it was down the toe path where as this mornings route was on the road. I need to raise the saddle a bit more and tilt the handle bars up slightly as it was a bit too low.

I need to work out how to measure the frame of the bike as it might be a size too small for me.

Frame measurements usually go from centre of bottom bracket to centre of top tube (ie the point where the top tube meets the seat tube). Some are measured from bottom bracket to top of seat tube though. You should also consider the length of the top tube, as this obviously affects your reach.

How tall are you, and how big is the frame then? What kind of bike is it? So many questions! Glad you're alive though.

I'm 6'.1" but the bike has no measurements as it was a custom built one for the original buyer. The guy I've borrowed it off (with the intention of buying) said that the original buyer was about my height too.

I've found out all about how to measure the frame and crank size so I'll measure it all up when I get home later.

The bike is a 2009 or 2010 version of this:

Well done on the free money mate, shame you can't spend on fixing your mods :)

Yeah, it very slippery and a pain in the ass to clean, I dont really like decking for them reasons, I wish it was never there and love to ditch it.
