Are Audi Main Dealers honest???

    My A4 2.5TDI Quattro is due for a service, I called three dealers to compare prices, and I couldnt believe what I was told, and can anyone tell me if the following is [censored] or what;

    1st dealer: Audi Preston,
    The service dept told me that the cost of a 30k service is £200 inc parts / labour.
    the work involved is to change the oil and oil filter only and report any 'faults'
    they do NOT change the air, fuel or pollen filters until 60,000 miles (cannot beleive that) and they dont top up your water levels.

    2nd dealer: Links Macclesfield,
    The service dept told me that the cost of a 30k service is £250 inc parts / labour.
    the work involved is to change the oil, replace oil, air, fuel & pollen filters, change the diff oil (what?, at 30k?) change the spark plugs (what? reminded him it was a diesel) and some other swinging shackle thingy.

    3rd dealer: Lancaster Audi (Manchester)
    never even bothered to return my call.

    Can someone tell me what i should get for a 30k service and who they think is honest, I changed from Ford to get away from snide dealers but am a bit concerned that Audi dealerships are not much better.

    I find you need to tell the dealer what you want them to do and get a quote off the back of this. Generally inspection service every 10k full service every 20k, brake fluid every 2 years etc. If you have the service book it gives instructions as to what should be done in there.

    No they are not Honest, by the sound of it they also have trained monkeys working in the Workshops !

    I had mine serviced last week, 3rd Avs service only done 40,000 miles. Had 2nd AVS at 29,000 miles cost over £700 and they said it needs new spark plugs, coolant change, haldex service and brake fluid change !

    I said they have been done 10,000 miles ago they don't need doing again. So the monkey comes out the workshop and starts trying to make me say yes to the work !

    Told him the car does not need spark plugs he said they did them anyway. I said well take them out as I am not paying any money for them !

    They then tell me the pads need changing even though I had them done about 6 months ago, changed them for Red Dots Pads they have only worn out about a third.

    So IMO They are not honest. They said they cleaned and hoovered the car, so i asked the service man to come and have a look at the clean car, with dirt all over it, and black alloys !

    Anyway they rang up asking if the customer service was any good i said it was basically cr@p !

    LOL took it there in the morning they said they can't find a booking sheet for the car. They said are you sure it is an Audi, er let me go and look at what car i bought ! Tw@ts !

    I don't know about dishonest but my local dealers are the most incompetent I have ever come across. I have taken the car in on three occasions for relatively simple procedures and each time they have screwed up and left me wishing I'd never bought an Audi. It's a shame because I actually like the car very much, more than my previous BMW's. BMW service is 1000 times better though.

    One dealer told me I couldn't order a sport cabriolet with beige leather. I said 'but it's in the brochure'. He said that it's 'out of date, they don't do it anymore'. So I went elsewhere and ordered, guess what, a sport cabriolet with beige leather. It arrived two weeks ago. I can only think the dealer wanted to sell me something from their stock or one already ordered. They are either dishonest or incompetent.

    So then the car arrives with the wrong spec and scratches. I am still in the process of getting things resolved now but the dealer initially tried to blame me for the mistake even though it was clearly theirs (in black and white on paper, i.e. the order form).

    To their credit Audi UK have been polite and helpful and are paying compensation for the order error and for the scratches to be repaired.

    I'd say if you have a problem with a dealer go to Audi UK and get them involved. The dealer was much more helpful after I spoke to Audi UK.

    Car drives like a dream and apart from scratches is great.

    You shouldnt have to tell them anything! The detailed service requirements are listed for each periodic service.

    So The best thing might be to take my car to a decent Garage to have the service done, but what about the service computer, can this be re-set like the BMW's with an aftermarket thingy????

    Try Awesome Gti in Manchester, VAG specialist, I took my mk2 golf gti 16v there recently, it had a problem another VAG garage couldnt sort, they were brilliant. Will definitely think about taking my Audi S3 P8 there too, at the moment its still in warranty and doesnt need anything doing, but after my experience buying the car and with previous main dealers I wouldnt touch most of them with a barge pole. There must be some good ones out there somewhere though.

    Find a good independent garage, They will probably do twice the job at half the price. Or even better do it yourself then you know its been done.

    (Edit; Just noticed the date of the original post - guess you wont be looking for servicing now! Hah)

    Mike, if your not too fussed about the service stamp in the book then I will happily fully service the car for you.

    I regularly do my 2.5 - recently did oil, filter, fuel filter, air + pollen filters, coolant.etc

    I have VCDS to reset the service interval too.
    I have never used a dealership to service any of my cars - I got put of with the fact my parents paid good money to have their cars serviced only to find oil hadn't been changed.etc - at least if I do it I know exactly whats been done and done correctly!

    My 3.0 TDI had full ASH, but in my ownership it will not see the inside of a main stealers again. I use Chorley Autovolk for my servicing etc. find yourself a decent indy and stop getting bummed over. I took my own oil last time as Euro car parts has Castrol edge on offer

    Why on earth take a car of this age (B6) to a dealer and get bent over?

    Either find a good independent garage who doesn't shaft you, or get off your arse and service it your selves. You'll save a lot of money and learn something too.

    this type of thread is why a) I service my cars myself, and b) I don't get all excited or happy at any car with a full main dealer history.


    my local Audi garage are a joke, they have even damaged cars without owning up to it, but their parts department are pretty good - I guess they need to be with the shocking build quality of these things! lol

    Parts department takes the mick; "have you got this part?", "yeah sure we've got that" *money gets handed over and receipt printed*, "we'll call in a few days and put it at the desk for you" :keule: wouldn't mind but the dealer's a two hour round trip.
