It's also shame for all the people who have bought new rovers with no warrantys, and they weren't the most reliable of makes in the 1st place. I wonder what happens about getting spares, etc.

But i think it is well and truely over this time....

£50 is pretty cheap for a brand new car, maybe they could do a feature on Top Gear - Rover Stock car racing!!

it is a shame for the britsih motoring industry that rover have folded-i personally blame BMW for stripping them of their best assests- the mini and Range Rover.

The fact that they were bought by BMW in the first place however?

The fact is - they built c**p cars. Have done since the demise of the SD1. No one wanted them because they were badly built, dated, unreliable and generally not a quality product.

IF they could have stuck with the deal they had with Honda in the eighties then they may have been able to keep going, but it is unfortunate that they have been on a slow ride down hill.......

I do feel for the employees and their families however.......

yup should`nt have sold it to these muppets also.

If BMW couldn`t maken a go of it then only fools would step in. The other party who wanted to close rover and concentrate on turning the MG brand into a prestige make had the better idea.

That does sound like a better idea, however as we know car brands find it difficult to shake off previous images - Skoda is a classic example.

Plus, without the "backing" of a major mass produced car to base their models on, MG would have suffered the same fate by getting left behind in the technology stakes, unless the buying company was willing to make a loss for a good few years while the MG brand "earned" respect in it's own right.... As there is no guarantee that this would happen, this loss could have been just that - a loss, not a loss-leader.
