Just got the S3 and been in touch with its previous owner who has said its had a visit to Expert Tuning,

I've never heard of him/ them,

Just rand expert tuning and asked about the car, he used a chap called JJ from Mobile ecu mapping.

It's up from 210-238 bhp and from 270-340nm of torque :)

Chap @ Expert Tuning says its a good safe remap,

Anyone else running this program ?

Never heard of them... how do yo know its 238hp now? do you have a dyno plot?

Do you know what boost your are running? maybe some logs of AFR to see if they have tuned the fuelling safely?

    What year/engine code S3?

    Hi Tuffty

Not sure of engine code,is it AMK ?

    It's a 2001 S3 with just passed 39'000 miles on it :)

I spoke to the chap at Expert Tuning who had a look on his p/c history file and told me the performance figure increases.
Only had it 2 weeks so not had chance to get any logs or dyno info yet,
I was thinking about a Viper Tuning remap via Unit20 but ive been informed by Expert Tuning that J.J @ mobile ecu remapping knows his stuff.
Still toying with the idea of still putting a Viper remap on it since I know of Viper Tuning is 1 of the best.

Unless its supported by a dyno plot I would take it with a pinch of salt...

From personal experience I would say anyone that maps cars as old as ours are now either mobile or without a dyno should be avoided... generic code does not cut the mustard these days... of all the cars I have seen come into Badger5 for maps most if not all has some issue relating to its age... could be something as simple as a split pipe (Bill @ Badger5 smoke tests all cars prior to a dyno run these days) or something a little worse like a failing fuel pump...

Our cars are old and stuff wears out... I would take it to somewhere that specialises in VAGs and knows what to look for.. I would expect a health check and ECU/AFR/Boost logging on a dyno... not just saying this as I help out with a well known tuner, this is experience of these cars (including personal experience as I own an S3)...

Not heard of Unit20 either but if they don't have a dyno then I would enquire how they log stuff first... if your S3 is a pre-facelift (APY engine code) then you won't be able to log AFR without a wideband gauge of some sort so you won't be able to tell how good your fuel pump is or if the map is safe on fuel... if you have an early facelift (AMK/210ps) S3 then you can at least log AFR in VCDS so you can do this road logging at least

    Good info, cheers

Unit20 has the use of a local dyno cell in Chester, I take the RS4 to Grizz ( Unit20) for its big jobs. I have spoken to Grizz this morning and in April when we go down for a visit and put a Viper map on it :)

We're pretty light footed anyway so it should be fine until April :) lol

Unit 20 always have rs6's etc. I'd be happy to leave the s3 there for major work but only 2 places I'd go for a custom map.. Badger 5 (bill) or R-tech. Whichever is well respected.

As a company referenced in this thread, I'd like to make a couple of comments....

Quattrokid's S3 was remapped two years ago, and when he called having bought the car from one of my customers he said he'd never driven an S3 with performance like it before.

Tuffty's cautionary response is understandable considering some of the quality of work that can be carried out in this business, but in the case of Quattrokid's S3, two years down the line the car is running perfectly. Not a bad test of longevity really is it? Also, on the power claim front, whenever our customers have had rolling road tests the results have exceeded our published conservative figures.

Take a look at the recent entry by Deano1978 after he came to us to have a remap from another supplier sorted out.

I understand that the writers on the forum may have had bad experiences from bad suppliers leading to some of the general comments I see. As someone that remaps day in and day out, including remapping for VW Audi dealers, I can only refer to customer feedback from those that have had work carried out by us and ask that you keep an open mind! Not everyone in this business is in it for the quick buck. To me, customer satisfaction and customer care is paramount, hence trying to put Quattrokid's mind at rest even though he was not my actual customer.

    Yea, thanks Paul. :)

^^^ I'll ask Grizz if that's possible before the exhaust is changed then Viper stage 2 mapped... depends how busy he is with other customers on the day.

Sadly there are many cars driving around with maps on them, which in reality are not good maps, but very lean maps.... particularly egt equipped K04 cars......... Thats no guarantee of the map having been done "properly"

    Dyno/Logging confirms fact from fiction.
