Anyone done cluster LCD repair themselves?

just seen on eBay you can get genuine VDO LCD to repair the pixelated cluster issue.

Anyone carried out this repair themselves? Ives seen it done on YouTube videos. But yknow how some people can make things look easy when they're not..

Easy or just pay the £100 odd quid to have it done properly?

Would do it myself if I had tools but as I don't so would pay someone to do it

I've done a couple. Ideally you need a hot air station to remove the old LCD. The new one can be fitted with a normal soldering iron.

I've done it but I would not say it was easy, took me about 3 hours in total

Might just pay the £100 odd quid then and send the cluster away. Car still runs without it. Just fill. The top off the tank every day and use gps for speedo...

the ones with the orange pcb with the components on it are sort of fake replicas of the original LCD.

The proper ones have a single shiney chip on the ribbon and are blue or green like this:

I've installed both and the genuine ones are better looking, but both do the job.
