Any V6 TDI major problems??????????

    Being in the process of going through the fuel injector fault on my 2.0 TDI 170 its seriously leaving with thoughts of future replacement.
    The 140's are suffering with balance shaft failure and rules them out plus it would be a step backwards in performance.
    I dont know why but the A4 Avant is what i always wanted and love it but this fuel injection problem has been expensive.
    I must admit i fancy a V6 TDI, not sure in what guise 2.5, 2.7 or 3.0?
    Do these suffer from any major engine/mechanical problems that the 2.0 are currently suffering?

    Stay away from the multitronic FWD as they are very unreliable and break + the cars on Longlife servicing may have cams problems on cars pre 2003 and there are issues with the injector pump control unit- rebuilds are about 5-1000 quid. I would go for a quattro all day long, either 2.5 or 3.0 tdi. The 2.7 is underpowered compared to the 2.5 tdi but its comon rail and more efficient. If money stretch go for a quattrob7 a4 with the 3.0 tdi and 6 speed manual box then get-it remapped ! 0to 60 in 6 sec. and enough torque to move the moon off its orbit !

    Agreed, 3.0 TDI all day long mate.

    No problems with mine so far, touch wood! although i can see my 600nm of torque eating my clutch before long!

    Lets just say i smacked a FOCUS STs ass the other day, in a diesel, brilliant!:applaus:

    Quattro is a god send in this weather!

    seen a couple with throttle body problems/faults. both times it was a wire broken just as it goes into the plug on the throttle body.
    apart from that ive not come across anything on the 2.7s and 3.0.

    The only thing that puts me off buying a newer (post 2001) car is the road tax and emission mallarky + i wont be that happy to work on them CR engines as i am on the current v6 2.5 tdi engines! I have driven a few new models and the ammount of electronics really puts me off as i know that sooner or later something will fail and i wont be able to fix. Also my 98 a4 v6 tdi quattro does it for the thrill factor every day and there is no fancy electronic traction control or ESP ! I just had mine rolling roaded (long story short i needed a "low" power graph to prove the old bill that i wasnt speeding at some point !) and with the MAF and MAP un-plugged and the engine de-tunned is still doing 190 Bhp and 400Nm !

    Pick the right model, and it's not too bad. I've just bought a 57-reg 3.0TDi TDV Quattro, the one with 233 bhp. Even with an autobox and four-wheel drive, the car gets into Band K for a £245 tax disc.

    Yes, and no. Early generation multitronics were fragile, but the problems were pretty much sorted by the switch to 7-plate clutches during 2003. B7 models should be fine, provided they are properly maintained; i.e. the oil changed every 40,000 miles.

    Oil changed every 40,000!!!!! I'd stay away from a car if they'd done it at that many miles!!! I've changed mine to fixed servicing and change the oil every 10k.
    My 3.0 tdi is now at 104k and still runs like new, the only problem with it is it's going to get me done for speeding very soon, lol. I've not heard of any problems, they do eat tyres though.
    Go for a 3.0 mate, you won't regret it.

    I'm talking about the oil in the multitronic gearbox, not the engine oil, d'uh! 40,000 miles is the interval specified in the service schedule for a multitronic gearbox oil change.

    But I agree with you about the 3.0TDi, and about fixed-interval servicing. Longlife? Pah!

    Mine had a horrible chuffing noise while cranking - 98k FASH. Dealer suspected timing chain tensioner (quoted £3k) I chickened out and got rid.

    Now got a 2.0 TFSI - servicing is soooooo much cheaper!

    3.0 TDI was amazing though - I'd have another but low miles.
