Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

    Thanks, i'll have to do some chasing up and i appreciate what you have done for us, word must of got round all Audi Dealers, yet some play an act, as they know nothing about this problem with roof rails, are they going to accept the fact there is a design fault with roof rails and only comes to the history of the car been garaged or left to elements of weather :shrug:

    Just got a phone call back from Blackburn Audi, apparently this work is not covered under the terms of the warranty but as a "good will" gesture they will pay 70%. They dont have their own body shop so I have to go to another place for a quote and then decide if i want to take it any further. I'm not sure whether thats a good deal or not since i dont have full audi service history but reading some of your quotes for 30% i'm tempted to take it to a local body shop who i trust.

    guys just checking i have a 99 s3 with rusty arches and roof rails am i covered or am i out car was registered 1/9/99??? just got the car last week

    As far as i know its a 12 year warranty so your well within the warranty period.

    Body Protection Warranty

    The only preconditions are:
    The defect must be reported to a member of the Audi authorised network as soon as it is discovered. This must, of course, be within the warranty period
    The perforation must not have been caused originally by damage, neglect, insufficient care or maintenance, or by external rusting
    A member of the Audi authorised network must be advised about any rusting immediately it is found
    All body repairs will be carried out promptly in accordance with the manufacturer’s technical guidelines, using only approved parts and materials, in order to maintain the original level of anti-corrosion protection

    YEAR AND VEHICLE MODEL - 1999 A6 (not an A3 but same problem)

    DETAILS OF RUST FOUND - bubbling to the rear of both roof gutters, which has not broken the surface

    TIME TO WARRANTY CLAIM FROM FIRST NOTICING IT - 2 weeks

    HOW LONG YOU HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME - 4.5yrs

    DEALER APPROACHED - Reading Audi

    OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED) - Refused

    REASON FOR REFUSAL - "gone too far"?

    DATE OF CLAIM - June 2009

    Also tried Audi UK in August but they simply stated this is not a warranty item!

    Will try email Richard @ Audi and let you know how I get on.

    i'm just starting the warranty process today after reading this post. they started the report and took paint readings but their digital camera battery was flat so waiting on a phonecall to go back and get it sorted. Really glad i've read up on this issue so i now know what i'm on about and to make sure the pics are of good quality and to get proof they get sent off as the excuses from some dealers on here are shocking... fingers crossed! i will complete a post with all my details on when i know what is happening

    I emailed Richard Starkey on 03/09/09 with my details of the claim i had refused.

    I recieved a reply on 23/09/09 from a James Wilkinson who works in Audi Customer Care stating the below:

    Dear Mr Philip

    Thank you for your recent email, addressed to Richard Starkey, regarding the corrosion to the roof of your Audi A3.

    Our investigations are continuing and once they have reached a conclusion, we will be able to respond more fully. In the meantime, thank you for your patience during our investigations.

    I guess its just a waiting game to see what happens.

    Oh and does anyone else get really annoyed when people spell you name wrong, even when they are responding to an email with your name in it and the email address is you name as well..

    WELL THE OUTCOME TO MY CLAIM IS STAFFORD AUDI WILL PAY 70% OF THE FINAL BILL, SUPPOSE NOT TO BAD, CONSIDERING SOME HAVE HAD REFUSALS, WHAT DO YOU SAY bantam1 :thumbsup:

    Just to update everyone. I was contacted by Andy Sargeant (paint and body technical and quality manager) and told he would arrange to re-inspect my vehicle at a local audi centre. Andy was away for 2 weeks and i've just got back from 2 weeks hols and so i haven't been able to arrange this. I need to contact Andy to arrange which i'll do this week but will be hectic with work having been away.

    I'm not sure if Andy will contact others but i will ask him when i make an appointment.

    TIME TO WARRANTY CLAIM FROM FIRST NOTICING IT - 3 WEEKS

    HOW LONG YOU HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME - 2.5 years

    DEALER APPROACHED - Tonbridge Audi

    OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED) -Agreed to pay 70%

    Photographs were taken and sent off to Audi HQ. Had an answer in 5 days.

    This seems to be a more common outcome. Why 70%? how do they come up with this figure? I would expect its either covered, or not! No explanation given on why it is 70%.

    i think if they told me they would pay 70% i would do my pieces its obviously a common fault. They should pay!

    That looks about as bad as mine, i got rejection - been there too long excuse. i am now awaiting reply from Richard, its a common fault with roof rails and should be covered. I always think the been there too long excuse is poor, imagine someone who got their car cleaned for them, that maybe wasn't an enthusiast, how would they even notice that without looking for it!

    If a claim is refused at one Audi dealer/Audi approved body shop, would it be worthwhile visiting another in a different area to try again?

    Also to the people who have tried to put a claim in, did you have any subtle modifications to your car and was this picked up on?

    Finally has anyone experience with west London Audi?

    I am currently searching for a nice spec, low mileage S3 and looked over an 03/03 plate yesterday, this too had a very tiny amount of bubbling showing on both roof gutters!!.

    I only just noticed it to be honest but it's in 3 places on each side and it's only on the outer sections and not the roof section.

    How much bubbling is classed as too much??, or "been there for too long", it'd be nice to know before i spend the money.

    All - worth noting that Audi have re-classified the zinc oxidisation, no longer do they consider it a body work issue, but a paint issue. Result less coverage for us customers!!

    Finally had a message back from Audi about my claim, just giving me a reference number and apologising for the delay. They said they will have more information in due course! just really want this done now! the outcomes affecting me spending money on other parts of my car! hope i get some positive news about it soon!

    Guys, my rust has reappeared 4 months after being repaired by an independant bodyshop. I have just been back over to the bodyshop today and showed them the damage. The guy who did the work couldn't believe that it had started to flare up again so soon!

    I have asked to be booked in again to have it repaired and it should be done for free but I am now worried that this is going to be a constant battle every few months.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to completely stop the rot because I feel a little bit disheartened from what i've just been told by the bodyshop. The guy said that I cant keep getting it resprayed and it'll just be a constant battle against the rust.

    I'm now considering the option of getting the roof repaired again and putting the car up for sale to save myself the grief.

    I once had a failry rotten mk4 polo, well rotten arches anyway. I paid alot, got it repaired and the rust came back 2 years later, allbeit on a minor scale in comparrison.

    It can be removed but it will come back eventually...usually.

    So my plan to sell up isn't sounding to bad now then!

    I was expecting the rust to show up again at some point but not after 4 months! The guy at the bodyshop said that the metal might be so porus that the rust will come back again and might get worse.

    Its starting to become more frequent than a service:

    - Change Oil
    - Change plugs
    - Change filters
    - Respray roof

    My sister is even worse off, put a claim in about 4 months ago and not a word since! not even a claim number, I think I need to do some chasing up for her too. While I am here, to anyone in Cornwall wanting to start a claim, dont go to Truro, I dont want to say much but it seems there is about 1% success rate there, if the girl is writing reports which sway the final decision, she is certainly not on our side. Its a shame too, its not as if the paint money comes out of her wages! It seems some of the people here have had really good experiences with thier local dealers who have been really helpful. I think I will pay the £30 petrol to get to the next dealer up the line if I need to go back.

    Mines an email too, and the worst thing is that since I showed my rust to the body shop 2 months ago and filed the case to richard starkey my rust has got worse! I can see the rust bubbles more clearly now and as winter progresses its only going to get worse still! I just want a reply to get this sorted out!

    Currently got a claim in for roof rail corosion via Audi Plymouth, been 2 weeks now was told it takes 3-4 weeks for a decision so will be chasing them in a fortnights time. Has anyone else had a roof rust claim dealt with by Plymouth Audi? They have always seemed pretty good over the last 20 years and 8 Audi's I've owned and had serviced by them.

    They took a load of photos and a short guy was dealing with it, not sure of his name but it could well be "Sam", the cars in there tomorrow 09:00 for a new clutch so hopefully with all the money im spending there lately they will fight my corner.

    DEALER APPROACHED - Crawley Audi

    OUTCOME (APPROVED, REFUSED) - Agreed to pay 70% (As a "goodwill" gesture...)

    Paint readings and photographs were taken and sent off to Audi HQ. Had an answer in 3 days.

    Why 70% and not 100%? Audi UK claimed it was a "paint defect"? To me this is absolute nonsense. It has not been resprayed and I caught the rust very early. If it's galvanized steel it should not rust - simple! To me they are just trying not to lose as much money on what is clearly a factory defect. Agreeing to pay 70% is a good as admitting they are at fault in my book.

    To be fair the guy at Crawley Audi agreed it was not a paint defect and definitely corrosion but said that there is nothing he can do and I need to take it up with Audi UK. He said the rear quarter and whole roof would need repainted. Total cost £1200 + VAT. So 30% would still cost me approx £400.

    Is this the new policy from Audi on this corrosion issue??

    I'm going to have to get onto Audi UK as I think they should cover 100% of the cost.

    Out of interest has anyone else had a negative response they successfully contested?

    If I was you i'd go to another Audi dealer and try again. Or email the main guy at Audi UK, his details are a few pages back as the original poster has spent a lot of time on the phone with him about this subject.

    As I said in earlier post, paint = less cover that bodywork.

    Its new AUDI policy, will be (or soon) the same at every dealer
