Well another s3 has gone. My house was broken into last night and they've took the car with the keys. It's a 66plate white s3 saloon. Gutted is an understatement. Reg is YC66 NNX not that that'll be much use as no doubt it'll be on fake plates. Stolen from East Yorkshire so I'm guessing it'll be headed to one of the major cities; Leeds, Bradford, Manchester etc.

Be safe people. Protect your cars best you can.

Yeah all fine thanks just bit shuck up. Yeah got the gap insurance thankfully. My only concern is as we've just moved into a new house the car hasn't been in the garage for the last week due to it been full of boxes from new things (tv's, sofa, microwave, Hoover to name a few) just looked on my insurance and it says car kept in garage. I know it usually states where is it "normally" or "usually" kept at night but it's making me worry about insurance etc. Anyone familiar in this? I've just changed the address 10 days ago to my new one so they know I've just moved in.

Gutted for you mate, must be horrible.
I certainly hope the insurers do what's right. Let's face it, your car could've got knicked from anywhere (work, town, etc) and you'd be covered so if they try to play funny beggars I'd be raging.
    Good luck buddy.

OBD port lock wouldn't help as they took the keys - this is the most common way of taking Ford STs, etc these days, looks like we're going back to the 80's having to fit mechanical immobilisers as the electronic ones seem too easy to bypass

Gutted for you mate, take it you didn't hear anything? I'm still trying to decide whether it's worth taking my keys upstairs, got 2 young girls and I really wouldn't want some fuckers upstairs in my house. Wouldn't bother me if I was on my own as I like a challenge :box:

Leave the keys mate, not worth it. If they're armed chances are out of shock of you reacting they'd use what they had. Life or death.

Worst part is as I had a going on with Audi uk and dealer I got such a good deal on my car my invoice only says £33,200. So my gap would only pay out to that amount and that wouldn't be enough to replace the car like for like, my build cost was £39k. Hopefully insurance will go on market value and with it only been 3 months old and only done 2,500 miles I'll get better money for it

There are two GAP products, back to invoice and vehicle replacement.

As the OP suggests, if you get a good discount it's usually worth getting vehicle replacement cover.

Hopefully things work out for you OP. Stressful enough without having to worry about the finance involved in getting a replacement...

This is getting way to common, sorry to hear you've had to go through this. I could be here all day cursing the ******** but that won't help you in anyway.

Don't let these scumbags get the better of you and dont let it stop you having the car you want, you only live once and letting these thieves dictate what you have on your drive is letting them win. Just update/upgrade your security. Disklok, foldable bollard and a small camera. I did same when my first B5 RS4 was taken off my drive (no entry to house by the way, they had a spare key....) and added some extra twist locks to front and back doors.

Don't keep your keys upstairs either, not worth it because it's going to be either you or the family getting hurt/traumatised by it or you being sent down for manslaughter!

I hope it works out for you pal.

    Not another one.

And another Sunday night......let me guess - sometime around 3am.
It's the best time for the thieves.
They know you will likely be in and asleep and roads will be quiet (unlike a Fri or Sat).

I am sure the insurance will be alright about the garage situation.
Just a pity it was full and the car wasn't there.

And it could have been taken from anywhere - so don't blame the new house!

Good luck. Hope you get it sorted and move on ok.

But - something needs to be done as it's becoming an epidemic.
Where are the gangs from.....anyone know? As in UK or immigrants (not racist.....just want to know any facts).

Sorry to hear of yet another vehicle theft. Small comfort l know, but at least you and the family are safe.

I always wonder if these are opportunist thefts, or if you were specifically followed and targeted?

Theft from the driveway is on the rise, mainly because as car immobiliser security improves (a moot point I know) using the keys is the easiest way for opportunist thieves to steal your car without the use of more sophisticated tools.

Good driveway security lighting and a good HD camera can act as a deterrent, and although they may not prevent the theft, they will cause most thieves to pause for thought. Breaking and entering to take your keys is a whole other level of scum. Prevention is the only cure. Don't leave your keys in plain site - but don't hide them either.

Im not a security expert, but any police crime prevention officer can come to you free of charge, asses your property and make recommendations for security improvements.

The main thing you need to focus on now is settling the family into your new house, and assuring them that this is a one off.

    Don't let the ******** win!!

As you're in a new house, remember and get your locks changed just in case anyone else still has a key. Many people forget this when moving house, even if this wasn't how they got in, it's still worth changing.

When I moved house, we had a new high security front door put in (the Police hate them because the battering rams can't get through them, only way in is to ram it with a vehicle). Company called Eurocell do them, awesome product and looks great. We've just had all the windows replaced aswell, so they're now high security aswell. We've got an alarm which is on when we're sleeping as it has sensors on the doors and windows. Short of CCTV, nothing else I can do to secure the house. Basically, they're not getting in the property, so they'll have to do the deed on the drive and it's a modern housing development, so the properties are on top of each other and overlooked, so you've gotta be pretty brave to have a go. Never had any issues with the ST and that was also a 'HOT' car with thefts from OBD quite common.

It's not the point, you shouldn't have to go to this extent, but if i'm away for work, I know the wife is as safe as possible. Plus my brother and parents live less than 1/2 mile away and can be there in less than a minute if needed.

Just don't let it ruin you having a nice car mate, take some steps to beef up the security and that'll hopefully put you and family at ease and feel more comfortable in your new home. I agree it's becoming more common for valued cars, quite scary when someone else is in your home and taking your pride and joy. Makes my blood boil thinking about it.

You just have to look on ebay, auto-trader, etc to see all the GTi, RS, ST reps for sale, these are usually Cat D cars repaired using genuine parts which would cost a fortune new so must be from stolen cars
Look at the sellers details - most are from Bradford, Dewsbury, Keighley

They snapped the lock barrel. The door was a upvc door but apparently they easily snapped with a pair of mole grips and a hammer. One sharp hard blow and it splits at the screw that holds it in. Painfully easy by sounds of it.

Yep, good locks, bomb blast film on big windows / patio doors, and a decent front door like a Rockdoor or a Solidoor, and you're pretty much set. No ones getting in without putting in a lot of effort and making a lot of noise.

An ultimate Rockdoor is about £1200, a full set of three keyed alike 3* antisnap diamond grade locks is about £130, and a big window can have its glass armoured up to the eyeballs for about £200. Up until I added all this you have broken into my house with a wet five pound note.

Buy a big noisy dog. Mines flies at the door at the slightest sound. Even keeps the cold sellers away. That plus full alarm system and touch would I've been fine for over 13 years. Back garden is also fully red chipped so noisy to move/run/stand on. However, ultimately if they want your car they'll find a way of getting it one way or another!
Hopefully a one off and you get a replacement car you can enjoy.

Obviously too late for you but handles can be treated as entirely sacrificial, so no need to spend the extra money a high secure handle. The important bit is the cylinder.

So long as you've got a TS007 3* cylinder then you'll be absolutely fine. If you want to the best security on the market then choosing a Sold Secure Diamond (SS312 accredited) cylinder like Brisant Ultion or Avocet ATK is well worth the slight premium over 3*
