If you run out, just fire anything in there, bottled water from the shop, it will help. Also motorway driving is where i use the least amount of meth as i am not on boost the whole time.Farting around town on low gear's/high boost is where i use the most, and logging, you will pi$$ through the stuff when logging.I buy it in 25l drums.

I have only gone thru 1 x 25l drum since i set it up a few months back, everyone is different, if you are on boost the whole time you will fly thru the stuff.

Hi Bill, i spied a few bottle of the industry stuff over here that uses Methanol and yes i had an incident with this stuff also, ( well, diliberate incident, LOL) so be careful, use gloves in a well ventilated place and dont get it in your eyes or smoke near it.If you have to have it at your residence make sure its away from the house if poss or in a locked container, its nasty ass stuff.

It depends on how much advanced timing you have dialled in for the WMI, i turned mine off the other day while logging and she started pulling 9* of timing retard, timing retard of over 10* and you should be worried, this can be a factor in engine destruction and should be avoided according to the TT tweakers guide.

If you run out the engine will run fine as long as you avoid WOT and just generally avoid giving her a thrashing until you top up.If you can't top up with Menthanol/water you can still use water to cool you will just be missing the octane(stablisation) to the fuel the methanol offers.

Hmmmm, like you said, if you stay off the boost then all should be well. Not ideal though, I still think a spare few litres in the boot would be a good idea.

    Found a methanol supplier.

He is able to deliver me 50 litres of virgin grade meth for £60 all in, including containers.

What prices are everyone else paying?

Personally, i'd map the engine WITHOUT the meth.

Adding the meth on top without tweaking the map will still give you more power and reduce temps etc, but then should you run out your not going to blow it up, as the map is safe to run without it.

Half of me agrees with you, the other half doesn't.

I agree with the fact that you build in safety and reliability without dialling in extra timing. The higher octane fuel and the cooling effect of the water will make a difference anyway.

    BUT

The additional timing advance possible is a real tempter. 4 degrees at the minimum advance is realistic, and in my eyes is partially the point of a WMI install.

    Hmmmmm.

I just dont think its worth the risk.

Your pump could fail, fuse could blow, wires/pipes could come off etc.

Plenty folk running WMI on S4's and RS4's that are tuned to the moon, and the general consensus over there is you map the engine without it, then add the WMI later to gain some power and add a bigger safety margin.

I put on an additional 12* up top when testing the WMI, i wouldn't recommend this for everyday use and it should be noted that you don't want to add timing across the range with the likes of lemmiwinks moreover the timing should be added up top where you are using the WMI, Bill can do this.

You might be happy with gains you get from no extra timing, and it will be safer. Win win.

wmi and timing advance is a choice.. as is what wmi % you mix

folks can decide whats right for them

the majority I see however are running additional ign to go with the wmi, and running full on 50-50 mix for all of the gains.. but keeping an eye on things also.
You can buy kits which will drop out the boost when the wmi's run out, so you can make a safe system. Its a little more costly of course but its an option for those who worry about forgetting about the tank level.

True Bill, its definetly not a mod you can install and forget about, along with topping up, it needs maintenance. However most kits have a level sensor that can inform you in car if you are running low.I used the sensor from my washer bottle, you could hear that think beep from outside the car, many a time it scared the ***** out of me when driving hard. I am keeping my eye out for a long thin reservoir that i can mount along the crash bar or something, 15L+ it would help me get more weight on my poor little 2fwd.

Well, I've spent some dosh today....

Bought a cooling mist WMI kit - mainly for the pump and pipework etc. 150 psi pump and it also comes with a tank which I won't be using. £100 delivered.

Also bought a Golf MK4 V6 4Motion subframe. Well, not just the subframe, also comes with the ARB, drop links, wishbones and steering rack with track rods and ends. £65 collected from Solihull. Bargain!

Hopefully the sub frame, combined with new bolts & rack mount bushes will solve my 'Phantom Clunk', and the WMI kit gives me all the stuff I need to get on and fit WMI.

That combined with a potential manifold makes this a good week....

OK, binned the EVAP system tonight.

Easy enough job to do to be fair. I will post up pics tomorrow when I can get some in the light to demonstrate how/what/where it's done.

Has made an ideal space for my WMI pump to live - really pleased... :)

Nice and close to the screenwash tank (which I plan to use as the Water Meth tank) meaning no long pipe runs. It will also be nicely protected from the elements living there.

Just waiting for the pump etc to arrive so I can mock up sizes and make a bracket to fit. The threaded holes from the Carbon Canister will be most useful for that me thinks...

Not performance wise, no to be fair. I didn't think there would be any, I did it solely to make better use of space.

On the other hand, you do get rid of a bloody ugly stupid canister.... Also obviously, IMO, getting rid of pipework can only be a good thing.

The solenoid seems to have stopped click as well which is a bonus, as that used to drive me mental.

Will monitor MPG over the coming weeks, as I suspect that if anything, that's what it will affect.

Be warned people with AMK engines or BAMs doing this that you should expect to see an 'EVAP System incorrect flow detected' fault code, even if you leave the solenoid plugged in.
