Another Cruise Control question

I've the standard cruise that's part of the Comfort Pack.

I always leave the stalk in the "stand by" mode rather than turning it completely off.
Is doing that okay?
Are there any specific reasons for having these two options?

I do the same with mine. There doesn't seem to be much point in the off mode, other than to get rid of the light around the speedo (for ACC).

Off will erase the last speed the cruise control was set at so you can't resume back to that speed.
