Well, it's a Sunday afternoon and I'm at work. This is mainly due to now having no missus and needing money! Not the best weekend ever it has to be said.

Anyway, I have suddenly found myself with a lot of free time. Which means I can get stuff done.

Mock fitted the head with turbo fitted last night. Initial observations - damn it's heavy.

NEWS FLASH - It does fit. I was shocked I have to say, but it does. However it was tighter than a gnat's chuff up to the bulge in the bulkhead where the steering column comes through.

Fixed that swiftly with some good old fashioned heat and beat.

Now there is a reasonable amount of clearance and downpipe fitting will actually be possible.

Moving on to the down pipe, WOW, now that's going to be tight. I've bought all 3" pipework. No way. Won't fit - end of.

Will have to use 2.5 and some UBER tight bends to make this work. There is so so little room to work with. I may also have to relocate the return power steering pipe as it's a bit in the way. Can get my usual hydraulics people to do that when the knock up a high pressure oil line for me.

Not the end of the world as the turbine outlet is only 2.5". Not what I had in mind, but needs must. Not planning on running that much boost anyway...

    Photos:

It was like that when I got here.... Honest.

    Some heat shielding required.... lol

The photo above shows how much room there isn't to work with for the downpipe... Hmmm.

No probs dude. I'm gonna slap it on ebay as a 3" downpipe kit.

    1 metre of 3" stainless, a 180 degree 3" mandrel, a 90 degree 3" mandrel and a 3" 6 inch flexi.

OK - so the new 2.5" bends are here. Those eagle eyed among you will spot that they are NOT stainless...

However they will be ideal for mocking up. Wasn't sure what will and won't work, so went for cheap stuff just to get an idea.

I must say that the 2.5" pipework is not very big - however needs must sadly.

These bends are epic tight, the full 180 sweep is done in 21 cm. Ideal.

So - bit of a slow week last week on the car progress wise due to illness - mainly man flu.

Have got some of the downpipe welded up though - and thought this might make you lot laugh.

If it's too cold outside to do any tig welding... Do the tig welding inside!!

Basically my mate's dining room has literally become a car workshop also equipped with a TV and PS3. Bit of a bomb site, but it's organised chaos.

His mrs isn't best pleased though.

Going to hit it hard this week and gets LOTS done.

Last night - a much better effort than last few days.

I was feeling a bit better, however that seems to have been undone by being out in the cold literally all night last night.

Anyway, got quite a bit done, not as much as I would have liked though.

Went to fit the sump - found that the plastic baffle plate was cracks and wouldn't sit properly. Fortunately I had a spare one at my Mum's so I grabbed that and fitted. Always handy having spares...

Slapped the sump on and bolted that up.

Finished torquing the head bolts after my M10 Ribe snapping which was annoying. Still, it's done some service so can't be too critical.

Then moved on to downpipe. Started on the making of the downpipe. First couple of bends now tacked together, however now I need to decide where we go from here as it is UBER tight to get out from the engine and down the exhaust channel.

    Couple of photos...

So, the engine is now complete again....

Well, a week has passed people. And not much has happened again. It's been a mite on the cold side down here, and for the last week hasn't really climbed much out of the minuses - didn't fancy being in the garage much!

I did fit the oil filter, so all is not lost.

Downpipe work started again last night, however no photos as yet.

You need a garage heater of some sort. Even the other week when I did my coil pack loom it was difficult to sort the wires with cold fingers and it was only about 5 degrees. I think a good old gas heater would be good.

Well I'm currently waiting or my brother's garage (part of his extension) to be built. Long story short he's having a massive extension to his house and a new garage and a half will be part of that. That is where the A3 will actually live to be fair. Just bought a roll cab and top box to go into the garage lol.

As soon as it's water tight then I'll move the A3 there.

However, at the moment, it's in my mate's garage which is less than big to say the least. The car literally ONLY just fits. Since it's not going to be there for all that much longer it's not worth the hassle to be honest.

Thats it, its all well and good having a garage but when its so small you can only just get the car without getting it in and working on it comfortably aswell as close the door to keep warm you`re pretty stuffed.

Alright for some with a double garage :p

Looked like a replica BBS failed, the spokes broke near the hub. Not sure how it happened but it sounded like he was just driving along?

God, I may have been a bit lapse with this thread... I sort of forgot about it. And the A3. lol

Thanks for all the well wishes about the White M3. That did indeed meet a very sad demise. Most of you will have seen it as many are on Facebook, but one of the BBS replicas that were fitted to the car failed. I was just driving along having pulled off, got to about 25 - 30 MPH, and heard a loud bang from the arse end.

Unfortunately as I was thinking 'What the f**k was that', the car started going sideways - to which I responded with some opposite lock and a bit of boot. This made the situation 10 times worse as the driver's side rear wheel had snapped off at the hub, leaving only 1 driving wheel.

The driving wheel span up when I gave it boot and span the car through about 270 degrees, taking out a post and writing it off. A bit of a bummer.

Naturally there are those that have their opinions about the circumstances, and those people piss me off, so I kindly ask them to keep them to themselves, as I couldn't give a cold jar of p*ss.

Anyhow, car was all kinds of smashed up - photos below:

As you can see, the damage externally was relatively minor, it was the damage to the suspension that was bad.

Pretty much everything snapped, as you can imagine the bill from BMW was rather excessive, meaning she was written off.

Insurance paid out without any issue which was good - they paid out £6900, even though I had paid more than that for it.

They took a week to sort it out, and I borrowed £7000 off my old man to go and buy it's replacement from Aldershot - photos:

The guy selling this didn't really know what he was selling to be fair. It's got a Gruppe Simota carbon induction kit, which is very nice. HSD coilovers front and back, all the carbon goodies, and a CSL bootlid. All those little additions add up really quick.

It's also been mapped I'm pretty sure as it substantially more aggressive than the previous white one - I will find out for sure one day.

Anyway - enough about BMWs - the track car.

What have I been doing for the last 3 months with it?

Precisely sod all. Two reasons. Cold and frankly horrible weather. A tiny garage that it's in, which is very badly lit and always wet.
Oh, and I ran out of money as well!

The engine is built and complete, now fitted. To be fair, to get it running I really need to do very very little. I need oil lines and a PAS pipe. And to fit the timing belt. And that's it.

Downpipe is made, and fits. Just. It is so so so tight in there you wouldn't believe. So, once it warms up a bit I will get on and get her running me thinks.

The cold has completely made me lose all motivation. It's quite funny how different it is working on a car that you don't need to use to get to work the next day...
