annoying noise on cold start up

guys last couple of mornings when its been cold iv started the car up and there has been a chattering/clanking sound for about 30-40 sec coming from the back of the engine bay but by time iv got this far noise has gone

now im thinking its a sticking starter motor how easy are these to swap?? can they be re-furbed , if you think its not this shout out other things to try please

car is 1.9 tdi

The solenoid can stick on the pre-engaged starter motors, you can remove the solenoid & clean/lube the centre/moving section of the solenoid!
