Well the sub arrived yesterday morning, fitted it all myself, and what a difference!!The sound system acctually has some nice tight punchy bass now:). I didnt realise how **** the original was untill I got this all set up. I just wanted to say a big thanks to AndyMac for supplying the kit and the instructions to fit it all. The kit had everything that was needed for the install, and the instructions were spot on! The build quality of the sub box is impressive, really does look the business(even though it cannot be seen when installed) I would urge anyone who has not got one of these to get one, as it is an excellent upgrade...a must have for the 8L if you like your music.

    Cheers Andy:respekt:

I would have done it by now but I have a load of other gear to 'stealth' fit at the same time which would require taking most of the interior apart and I really can't be arsed in this weather.

I personaly do not have any experience with the BOSE system, but from what i have read this upgrade is suitable for both Bose and non-bose systems. AndyMac will be able to explain it better than i can...

fair play mate, i know what you mean, it was a bit of a pain doing it yesturday...when it got dark it realy got alot colder, lol. was worth it in the end though...:cold:

It's more suites to the Bose setup in my opinion, as the speakers are run off a seperate amplifier and the extra bass the Andymac enclosure compliments it. But for those who listen to D'n'B and stuff with low and long bass lines, then the setup will show it's limits, it's still a great piece of kit though, and Andymac has done a fantastic job on the quality side.

I'm in Golders Green and had Andy's sub fitted, but I went as far as replacing the whole set-up... Even the wiring, so not sure how that compares to standard.

PM me if you want to meet

No mate... As I said, I replaced all of the speakers: 5" Focal Access1 components at the front and 6.5" sized at the back. All were fitted using Andy's MDF ring adapters and wired directly from the stereo's amp using normal speaker cabling (by-passing the standard stuff completely). The sub is mounted as normal, via an Alpine V12 amp, as supplied by Andy and by following his instructions.

The sound from this set-up is great and if you compare this to the standard BOSE configuration, it's like listening to a 1000 grand Hi-Fi after putting-up with an ALBA stereo. The difference is really that huge. The clarity, volume and depth of sound is much better, even at high volume... For me, the whole thing was worth the money if you like your music.

Plus Andy was great at putting-up with my questions on the phone, which was great since I never fitted a car amp before. :respekt:

... and if you never seen the "Premium" BOSE speakers, then prepare to be amazed by the sheer size of the things, which reminded me of the speaker you get in some old PCs, which makes the annoying beep sound... 3" or something like that.

Hummm, interesting... I have Focals to go in mine but they are going to powered from my multi amp/electronic cross over setup... He never mentioned he had adaptor rings for the speaker positions... I was going to get the Autoleads plastic adaptors but the last lot I got for my A4 were rubbish and I ended up making MDF rings anyway... Think I may have to drop him a pm :)

Yeah, Andy's adapter rings a very nice and sturdy, although I still had to use a Dremmel tool to make them fit just right. And yeah, I asked for them specifically as I saw a reference to them on one of his posts in the ICE section of this forum.

I found that majority of sound distortion seems to come from the vibrations of the door cards themselves, which seem to get overpowered by the upgraded speakers. The fix for that was a very liberal application of sound deadening material (Dynamat or the like) on door cards around the speakers as well as directly behind, on metal car panels. :thrashi:
