I think so too...never seen a Speed Yellow C4S in the metal before, and certainly not with an Aerokit and GT3 wheels!
I'm just so chuffed with it!

    Well done Glen. Enjoy!

I would have bet on 986 or 996 but in that order.

When ever I am away for a few days something happens and I miss being involved. Be it the Pimp or Rich and his turbo, and now this. There I am reading through the post's from the top of the forum and I spy a post from "Ess Three" and I think hello new car? Scoot to the A3 section and we have nigh on 100 posts and I missed them all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/goofy.gif

On a sidenote anyone have any idea how a 964 or 993 c4/c3 would compare to a chipped s3?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I can tell you this:
When David R owned his modified S4, he went up against a 964 C2 owned by a friend of his...the 964 with 'only' 250 ish BHP was still ahead at well over 150 on the clock - obviously this wasn't in the UK!

The same modified S4 was quicker in a straight line than my well sorted S3...so in my mind, if the 964 is well driven, a chipped S3 doesn't have a chance....
Add into the mix corners where chassis balance is required and the S3 won't even be able to keep a well driven 964 in sight....in the dry anyway.
In the wet, it way be more equal...I can't say for sure.

The 993 has an even better chassis, better brakes and more power and torque...you can work out the rest.
    If the 993 is a C4S...an S3 has no chance...the 993 C4S is a fantastic car!

Compared to my 996 C4S, my S3 was quicker in 6th by virtue of the fact it had way more torque and it was produced lower down...altghough it's not as much slower than the S3 in 6th as I was expecting.

Through the gears though, they aren't even playing the same game...

Almost correct on this one Glen /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The 964 (which was only 100kk lighter than the S4 and with 256bh) matched the S4 accelleration almost exactly up to 175mph on the Italian Autostada (and I'm not just saying this of being abroad I have the photos to prove it!).

On give and take twisting mountain roads the 964 would easily pull out a few car lengths over the course of a few miles (and they were both driven to a very committed level, whether or not you would call this well driven is debateable). Suffice to say that I had never seen an oil temp of 140 degrees on the S4 before, nor a coolant temp of 115degrees.. I did suspect, however, that the S4 was not running exactly as it should have been and later found a broken DV and torn TBB. I have run the S4 against a 993TT (420bhp) and the difference up to 100mph was small, but over 120, the 993 pulled away.

On the track, the S4 and 964 were about the same, the S4 having an advantage out of slow corners. Lap times were just in favour of the S4.

On the track with the S3 (well, my S3, not a standard one) the 964 was 2s per lap slower, although would pull away up the straights to 110mph, I wouldn't fancy my chances of keeping up much over 100though.

Which leaves me to conclude that either Stuttgart horses are very strong horses, or the small frontal area of the 911 gives such an aero advantage at high speed as to make a car with "only" 300bhp pull all the way to 170.

Funny thing is that the Porsches never "feel" that quick, and I would have placed my house on the fact that the S4 would have trumped the 964 using only the seat of the pants dyno as reference.. Bizarre.

What a monster pair of threads to catch-up on!

I'm glad I read the other one first! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif While I read the first few pages I was siding with the people who were pretty much pinning it on a specific 911; and then I got confused again a few more pages in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Nice choice though Glen! - I happened to be having the 'discussion' (*again*) about tokyo tinsel vs. german engineering with my mate when I clicked this thread. As soon as the pictures of your new chariot appeared it all went very quiet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Enjoy it, although I'm sure that goes without saying! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

    Regards,

    Rob.

PS> David - Which road is that? I'm probably imagining it but it looks similar to the one towards Rome from Abruzzo?

My old man has a 996 C2 with the older 3.4L 300bhp engine. I was lucky enough to be insured on it for a year whilst he was overseas. My S3 isn't chipped (yet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) but the porsche seemed so much faster. The power delivery is just so smooth compared to the S3 - you cant beat a big NA engine. I can only imagine how fast Glens C4S must feel.

How did you blag those wheels from the factory? I didn't think they were available???

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It's a long story...so I'll try to be brief:

I spotted on the German 911 configurator that they were an option in Germany...at the same time I was sent the US ordering guidelines, and they were available as an option there too.

I tried the UK configurator and it had them listed as a no cost option...so I spec'd the car and saved the configuration.

A week later Porsche Cars GB had removed them from the configurator - claiming they were't available...so I produced the saved configuration and argued the point that they were when I placed my deposit, and I wanted them.

Months passed with various conversations between my OPC and PCGB / PC Germany...to no avail. At this point I found out that a guy who had ordered a TurboS also wanted the same wheels - from the same dealer.

The time came to confirm the spec of the car - prior to build - and I declined, since they couldn't give me the wheels I wanted...when they say you can have anything you want!

The end result being that I - and the other guy - got the wheels we wanted via the Porsche Exklusiv department...and they relieved me of even more money for the privilege.

    [ QUOTE ]

Six months man? how have you kept that to yourself? very nice mate - enjoy!

Might I suggest you do not.
Unless you are a very strong willed individual with the ability to see reason, and walk away when every part of your body tells you you have to have one!

    I'm afraid I'm weak...once driven, I had to have one...game over!

If however, you are prepared to have senses aroused that you'd not experienced before, and feel driving pleasure in it's purest form...go and drive one!
You could do a lot worse than blag a go in a C4S!

Nope...they are still making the Turbo bodies 996s (Turbo, TurboS and C4S)

Orders will be coming through throughout next year...not sure if you can still order a new C4S...you probably still can as the waiting list is about 6-7 months, and traditionally Porsche will continue to offer the wide body previous shape cars for a period of 12-18 months after the launch of the new model.

    The plate is mine...
It will look somewhat better - if a little less legal - when I fit my slightly amended plates with the mounting screw in a certain part of the 'B'!

...and besides, what's all this 'give it back' nonsense?
I'm not giving any of it back! It's all MINE!!! (laughs in a Dr Evil sort of way!)
