Has anyone got / had a shark remap on their S3?

If so, what are they like? any horror stories or bad reports?

I'm swaying to taking a journey up to r-tech but have just seen that W8 Performance offer shark remaps.. they are very local to me, whereas r-tech is a bit of a mish!

Distance / convenience sways it if the difference is minimal really!

Cheers

Biggest issue with a lot of these remaps is that peeps turn up the boost (often to silly levels) and don't touch the fuelling... have seen some maps where its producing 26psi and is on stock fuelling... this is very bad... 26psi is too high for a stock motor for a start and stock fuelling is too lean for that level too...

Stage 1/2 boost shouldn't be more than around 1.5bar spike tailing off to 1.2 ish bar at the top end of revs (typically and engine condition dependant)... fueling should be in the 0.85 lambda (12.5 AFR) range under boost...

If you can get before and after dyno runs with AFR/boost graphs and logging too then there shouldn't be an issue... I know that both Bill @ Badger5 and Niki at R-Tech will log the car during the runs and tune accordingly... I assume W8 would do the same..

Well I'm in London mate and rtech are about 150 miles from me but have used them always, they have been fantastic for me and I would fully recommend them was well worth the 4 journeys for me !! More to come lol, but maybe speak to shark and bring up any concerns u may have and go from there mate, as most maps u get what u pay for, good luck buddy

Shark seem to have done more work with 8ps so far. Might be worth reading what a few of them have had to say about their remap.

mixed reviews in the 8p section.
although what i've noticed is that 8p tuning, and other modern cars for that matter, it isnt anywhere near as extensive as the services offered for 8l's by the likes of badger 5 and r-tech.
i've been looking for a focus st specialist who is as thorough as the above tunersand there doesnt seem to be anyone. much like for the tfsi fellas.
basically were lucky as 8l owners to have tuners so thorough as r-tech and B5.

Thanks guys, valuable info there. There is no RR or logging with the Shark so I think I will be making the trip to R-Tech. Bill is a little too far!

Good excuse to take the car for a drive I guess... ramp up some miles since its been given a total going over!

cheers all! :beerchug:

to be honest though, rather than jump to conclusions about them, it might be worth speaking to them to see exactly what they offer. theyre just relatively new thats all.

I think i'm going to stick with a known quantity this time round. Done a bit more research and I like how thorough r-tech are reported to be.

I just want to add I personally know Ben wardle who owns shark performance and he'd be more than happy to tell you psi and fuelling levels on his maps. He posts on most forums as shark90 . I'm going to be taking my bam s3 to him soon, he's just got 4wd dyno in at Mansfield workshop!

And to add he does do logging, and was doing trial period with maps I think..... Not sure if still is but can find out as I employ his dad

Anyone thinking of getting a remap done should at least talk to Ben @ shark , he's invested a lot of time and money into the best technology and tooling his company use.

Give Ben or Mikko a call at Shark and speak to them about any concerns you may have. But don't dismiss things without trying it first or getting the full picure. I do agree that R Tech have extensive knowledge of the 1.8 T engine, but so do Shark, they just aren't on as many forums.

I am only a dealer and don't have a rolling road but have mapped lots of 1.8t's as well as 1.9tdi, 2.0tdi and the 2.0T with lots of happy customers.

If anyone has any questions get in touch.

Rob
