Well i'm eating a rather large lump of humble pie....
A couple of months ago i had my car remapped at Amd, originally
i was pleased with the results considering it was a generic map, but after
a few days problems began to appear.
Started to experience limp mode from time to time and was told by Amd
when i went back that there was serious problems with my car.
It has been niggling away for some time but when i started to get faults
saying 'charge pressure maximum limit exceeded' i began to doubt the map even more !!
After some time i decided to try a new map at Jabba Sport as i've heard good things, a rolling road custom map set up by Mike whose a good bloke and really knows his stuff. The first thing i was told was that the map i'd had loaded to my car only 2 months or so ago looked like an old map... probably about 4 years old i was told.
    Not a happy bunny !!
I then get told it's the style of map, apparently the maps of today involve at least 20 or so files, mine had about 6.... the maps were never developed further when there was a change of hands.
I feel well and truly robbed...
The car was running around 252bhp and 280ish torque...
But what i was most pissed off about was apparently my car was boosting at 1.9bar....:tapedshut: not at all healthy and could of killed my Turbo, hence the limp mode and maximum limit exceeded.
I've now got the Jabba map and am running 270 bhp and 308 torque....
And very pleased,Mike really does know what his on about and was happy at the work he's done:applaus:

So in a word... i would never go back to Amd and wouldn't advise anyone else too !!

I assume the new AmD (totally different people from the old AmD).

AmD used to be great, then got proper rubbish, then BBT bought them and they continued downhill from there.

Oh, and the 'maximum engine speed exceeded' is what I assume you mean, from a vag-com?

Thats completely normal, when your car is remapped they change the rev limiter from 6500rpm to 7500rpm, and the engine speed exceeded thing is a joke by the guy that wrote vag-com!!

As for the 270Bhp on jabbas rollers, thats actually closer to 250Bhp and 280ft.lbs on accurate rollers, but the Jabba map should be a lot better than the AmD remap anyway.

    Yeah dave, BBT....
Pity, when they were in Bicester they remapped my A3 which was great,
I may ring them tommorrow and express my feelings, if i hadn't had it checked out it may of soon been a new Turbo...
Mike was pretty shocked to say the least,it blew his testing pipe off when he wound it up !!

Dave, he doesn't mean 'maximum engine speed exceeded' He means ( Code 17963 Charge pressure maximum exceeded )

As for my views on AMD, i was under my car a few days ago and found what looks like a hook from when they strapped my car down on the rollers at AMD, a fist sized brass hook still lodged in the chassis by the exit of my exhaust. I took my car to them to get an idea of the bhp as my remap is unknown they said no problem we can do that, but then once i paid i find out they cant give a good reading as they have to run all S3 in 2WD on the rollers. I get 227 bhp from a mapped S3... now thats not right is it. I'm none the wiser.. Then try and tell me one of their maps would sort it out! Glad i didn't now...Really how can a company charge £400 for a generic map which takes about an hour to do, which is also 4 years out out of date! and basically ***** all over.

I had mine mapped when AmD was good, when Ed, Scott and co was working the premises, not had any problems at all, so maybe I shouldn't worry too much.

Jason on here had 238Bhp on Jabbas rollers, 200Bhp a week later on Dyno Dynamics rollers.

Its not normally that much difference but they do seem 'happy'in comparison to some other peoples (JKM and Pwer Engineering are both very accurate)

    Hey Budgy,

Are you getting a generic map from Jabba? Are you going to Crowland or their dealer in Bury?

I had a Generic from their main workshop and am very happy with it. I'd be interested to know how you get on, as I'm just down the A14 from you.

    Who's doing your FMIC?

Vanilla, I will go to there workshop in peterbough and get a custom map. me and Leggy went up there yesterday for his car and we were quite impressed, as for the FMIC check out Sitrials thread he say he can get one sorted for £350 so i would probably give it a go myself, there are pleanty of guides about.

Ah cool. I'm glad I went with Jabba. I'm confident you both will be as well.

So Is leggy a Suffolk boy as well?

Last time I looked sitrials wasn't subtle enough for my liking - maybe it was work in progress.

Maybe when S3ren gets his licesne back we should meet up?

Thats strange guys as I know Simon who is the owner of AMD now & he wasnt from BBT, BBT chipped in but he was the main buyer, he ran Mega4 doing revo maps in surrey, he's done all my maps from before he bought AMD & have never had a problem with his work at all.

If AMD were so good before then why is it, if they are using the original maps still from amd before Si bought them out then why would they be **** now but not **** before, doesnt make sense does it.

You also should know amd were going down the toilet before Simon came along, they spent so much money on toys they were broke.

But I can say for sure you should go back to Simon & talk to him about the map he did & explain you're not happy, he usually is happy to try & resolve any problems & he always & I say always has helped me on any queries etc.

& no I dont work for him or earn commission, lol, lol, he genuinely is a nice bloke.

Nigel the map might have been S*_t hot 4 years ago, but i suppose things evolve and get better and it's a bit dated now, plus only being a generic map it's not customized to the car, all car cars slightly different and with a custom map it can be mapped to the that cars best ability, also i didn't know this, but it's mapped to which petrol you use as well, so using shell super unleaded or tesco's you can see an extra 15bhp if mapped to it, over normal unleaded.

Also whats the point in selling me a rolling road session if i don't get a proper readout they shouldn't even do them on cars with the haldex system.

    Nigel.....

I appreciate what your saying about the remap, i did wonder that myself, if it was ok 4 odd years ago, then why not now ?? Simple answer is i don't know....
But the facts at the end of the day are.....

The turbo was boosting at 1.9bar which is stupidly high and would of killed my turbo in the end....
The Remap was approx 4 years old which i think in it's self is wrong, had i of known this i wouldn't have bothered in the first place, and to still charge a reasonably hefty price takes the piss....
I did return to them with complaints of the car's running and was told i'd have to leave it with them and get a train to London, then on to Ipswich....(not impressed)
I was told the turbo was cooking it's self and getting to hot, obviously due to the excessive boost pressure it was trying to run. Now if they had my car for 2 days then why did they not notice or check the boost pressure ??
I wasn't filled with confidence when dealing with BBT (AMD) hence why i went elsewhere, if you or anybody else has found them ok then good luck to you...but i speak as i find...and certainly wont ever let them touch my car again !!!!!!:undwech:

Can I just add that the remap probably requests 1.9bar boost, but the turbo never actually gets there. I remember seeing requested boost was 1.9bar when I tried to log some boost figures on my S3 a few years back with vagcom.

    JoJo....

when Mike at Jabba put his tester on it, it blew the pipe off....
To be fair i'm not that in keyed up on the equipment used, all i know is Mike laughed quite concerningly when he was telling me about it....
All the cars he's done, which is a lot by all accounts....he's never seen that happen !

I don't claim to be an expert neither, just remember seeing a file with boost requested reading 1.9bar Leggy. I have a boost gauge installed in my car which goes upto 2bar, but I have yet to see it go past 1.5bar at full boost in my car, infact, it occasionally spikes to 1.5bar, then drops down to 1.1bar'ish which is normal I'm told.

The advantages of having a boost gage :)
i might have one fitted at some point for peice of mind....
i did see a thread on here not so long back talking about safe pressure's,
    i think a K04 was safe upto 1.5 - 1.6 psi....anymore is bad news, hence when i was told 1.9psi, i wasn't to chuffed !

I can understand what your saying & I really appreciate it wasnt maybe great for you, but he did offer to work on it for you & leave with them to trace the issue, I'm sure if another tuning company also had issues you would have been in the same boat mate, leave with them to look at & get train home & I am pretty sure he would have resolved it for you, I know this guy, he tests things all the time, takes them for tests drives after the work etc, checks logs etc, he deals with some fairly knowledgable guys who build the maps for him & check them before he implements & afterwards etc, I am hesitant to accept that every map Jabba or anyone proclaims to do are actually customed mate, of course I am no full on technician atall & dont preclaim to know anymore than the average guy on here, but if Jabba or any other mapping companies wrote custom maps for every car they did they would never make any money, amd, revo, apr all of them make maps for the actual model cars, then apply them then amend accordingly if they see any issues, am I wrong as I like to know/learn more about this process.

I'm not defending what happened to you, just playing devils advocate, but correct me if I'm wrong, you didnt give them a proper chance to resolve, when you did ask they did offer to look at whether you had to leave there or not.

Do you want me to fire an email over to Si to get him to ring you as he really is a nice bloke & I'm sure if he knew it was a problem he would do something to resolve it or make you feel better about dealing with them.

They did look at my car Nigel and told me after 2 days the coolant temp sensor was knackered causing the problems. That may well of added to the problems i dont know, but with the boost pressures the car was running and the fact these were old maps i really can't be bothered to go over the same ground, i appreciate you are looking out for somebody you seem to know quite well, but e-mailing really isn't necassary, the work has already been done, and rectyfied..... I wash my hands.....
I'm prewarning people that may be thinking of going there, that the map they'll get is old, i wish someone could of told me !!

I'm not looking out for Simon mate, just I know if you went to him now & said what had happened he would more than likely look at a reimbursement, I cant guarantee that but its worth a try dont you think fella, I always go back if I'm not happy with something someone has done for me whatever it is, principle, you pay for something, you dont get it then complain.

Who actually changed the sensor, amd or jabba, its easy for another company to rectify a fault if they know what was causing already, then diss the previous company, that seems to be the norm in any industry unfortunately, but alas.

I do beg the question, I assume Jabba said they were old maps but unless Jabba & AMD discussed it, we as a collective would never really know whether Jabba or AMD are right or wrong huh?? I would say if Si had the chance to fix with more time they would have satisfied you & you would be happy now with what they did, but you seem to have resided yourself to losing the money, if was me I would go back, cant speak for anyone else of course.

I'm just curious mate about the whole scenario so excuse my questions, its also a learning curve for us all about these things, no one except the programmers know how the maps work really, so any info is always nice to know.

If i honestly thought i had a chance of getting my money back then of course i'd speak to them, i don't see this happening however i'll give them a call tomorrow and let you know how i get on. It was AMD who changed the sensor and it did seem to run a bit better for about a week or 2.
When i first spoke to Mike at Jabba and explained i already had a map on the car could he write over it, he said 'give me a little while and i'll see if i can work out what they had done' If he couldn't then he would have to remove the ecu and flash it, returning it to standard state, as it was... he could see what they had done and said it was a very basic map and was probably about 4 years old. I cant remember the name of the bloke he said that used to work at AMD, but this bloke was the one that wrote a lot of the programmes, and was very good, but once he left the programmes weren't developed further, and so for todays times, are very basic.....
I'll keep you posted on the chat !!

AMD maps all went out into the outside world before they went pop and are being used by at least one generic mapper out there.

Jabba are right, the maps on 18t's DID develop to be more complicated and generally run ower boost more timing in the last couple of years. Indeed, Jabba had my car back in that they mapped 2003 for a "map adjustment" in 2007, as they told me their own maps were now more sophisticated.
