Alternator Number

Hi I need a new Alternator does anyone know what the number is iv been told that the number is on the back or side of it. I cant see it as it is still in the car I have a 2003 s3 on an 03 plate and the engine code starts with BAM.

Any help please!!!

u should b able to see the number it is between the two posts on the back of the alty fella it will be a 012~~~~~~~ number this is bosch s oe number the vag number is under it [my money is in the alty has completely stopped working the regulators just stop working]

Cheerz for that I was able to find the number after calling Audi and getting three numbers it was a bosch unit. After a few bits removed from the engine bay and a few cuts to my hands got the right number. I got the part earlier on today for £145 after vat and £30 surcharge for the old unit gonna get it fitted tommorrow from a mechanic friend of mine for about £30.
