Alternator Belt/ tensioner pulley

    Afternoon :D I have recently bought an 2004 A3 sport with 82k I have noticed that everytime I put the climate control on I get a squeeky annoying noise could this be the pulley tensioner? Some help would be great Thanks Simon.

    the clutch on the aircon pump giving up? if it were the tensioner youd have the noise all the time i would have thought.

    oo dear that sounds expensive then, would it still be worth changing the pulley and tensioner, though when the climate control is of you can hear it slightly when you drive. Its just a lot more noticeable when the ac is on.

    I've had that and it turned out to be the freewheeling clutch on the alternator. Changed clutch and tensioner for £70.
    I noticed mine went mental when turning full lock.

    I got a new tensioner and belt from my local garage and the noise has stopped :D worked out at £40 for the tensioner and £12 for a new belt.

    Welcome to the forum Simon...

    As your car is a 2004 would I be right in thinking yours is an 8P (newer A3 shape) rather than an 8L (older shape)? If so, I would suggest that you check out the A3/S3 8P forum for stuff relating to your car bud :)

    Mine does this too, I was thinking it wa the drive belt tensioner.
