Alternator and air-con belt renwal

1999 B5 Avant, 1.9tdi engine, 160k miles

Main auxiliary drive (serpentine) belt, drives alternator etc., splitting lengthways so in desperate need of renewal. Thought I would renew the air-con drive belt at the same time

'Haynes' manual states front panel needs removing; can the main belt and a/c compressor belt be removed without taking off front panel? My local dealer has quoted £100 + vat for labour so I assume approx 1.5 hours for the job, I doubt that would give enough time to remove bumper & front panel

Any advice, tips or links re belt renewal will be very much appreciated

You just need to put the front end into service position.

Bumper off, remove bumper shocks and slide panel forward.

I'm sure the haynes explains it?
