just done the compressor fix on my 2004 allroad (seals etc). Problem I have is with the metal dust cover that I had to remove to get to the compressor.

Its fixings were so well rusted/corroded etc that the only way I could remove it was to pull it off and "tear" it off its bolts that mount it.

Does it matter much? I realise it is there to keep the compressor dry/clean but if I just leave it off is it ok or should I make some effort to repair it/drill new bolt holes into spare wheel compartment etc?

Unless you drive on farm tracks or get your car offroad often then you could leave it off, however if you can drill new holes and rivet the cover in place then it will be much better ?!

I am a farm vet so vet it gets covered in s**t regurally. Good idea, I will try to rivet it back on in new holes, probably cover the holes in underseal to prevent rusting - thanks.
