Hi All,

slowly with age losing some power on my 2002 allroad AKE. I do quite a bit of towing. Using VCDS all the vitals show up ok, Boost pressure, EGR working fine. I have also had the car chipped (via ECU not an add on box). I change the oil and filter every 7000 KLMS and auto trans every 40000 klms. Dynamic timing in VCDS looks ok, no fault codes. 230000 klms done on car, so getting old. Will removing the cats (filters) in the exhaust make much of a difference? and being an AKE is it worth just doing the primary (after turbo) one or do all 3? All thoughtful comments appreciated! (In Australia so no exhaust test worries.)
Oh and yep, all the camshafts are sweet! (No longlife servicing in Oz due to classification as a "hot" country by Audi...)

Before you throw out parts from your car Check (VCDS) the injection timing, should receive 2 degrees ATDC (+-2) Engine must be at operating temperature (90 ~)

Hi mate,

Thanks yeh as mentioned, timing all within spec on VCDS.

Sorry, you're right.:) Compression test Can eliminate a lot of Causes. If you use your vehicle for short trips that a lot of times so there is a possibility that the catalytic converter clogged.

Ok further to the above, i just did the dynamic testing again and sure enough, 2.2 degrees ATDC, so almost spot on.

I tested EGR valve again, and noticeable change in engine note when the EGR is off with MAF reading of 440 (ish)mg down to 130 (ish) mg with EGR fully on.

Boost pressure showing 1020 (ish) millibars and when fully working 1100 millibars at idle. I have iddled with the adjuster so that i can get a little more boost which sees my N75 valve operating around 50% under load conditions (full load 3500rpm) in order to get better low down response.

Again my problem is just a seeming laziness. Any other ideas before i go the de cat route?

This is a question I have been thinking about.. due to being in UK I have to consider emissions . I know some specialist exhausts are available but would it be just as easy/ cost effective to simply fit a new standard exhaust with cat.. surely that will make the system as new. The second job would be to consider blanking the egr? ?
