new to here and can you help.

last night the alarm started going off.
checked the doors, windows, bonnet and boot to make sure shut and all ok.
I un plugged the battery for 5 mins and then re attached. was ok then went off again after few mins
checked magic light on battery and black so needed re charging
re charged and now showing green
when driving the car the DIS shows the boot is open when its clearly not.

could I have a faulty sensor for the boot or bonnet which would trigger the alarm to go off??

I noticed the plastic bit on the bootlid was damp so could some water have got in? will try and dry off a bit too

** does anyone know what the sensors look like or where they go? **

    any tips or ideas welcome.

    thanks, Nick

Could be because the rear wash wipe tube has come off & is leaking inside the hatch onto the sensor.

Even if it hasn't, the boot sensors can go faulty & then set the alarm off anyway.

Try a search on the topic...

DIS showing the boot open is a bit of a give away.
Water could have got to the sensor
take the lock out and see if a bit of WD40 frees up the switch.

    Thanks all

was being a lazy forum whore. done a search and looks like lots of folks have had same issues.

saved me loads not buying a new battery or going to audi for an ass raping on the VAG.

have now got some WD 40 so will sort tomorrow in the day light.

    alrite mate..

youll be happy to no i had exactly the same problem alarm kept going off and it said the boot was open and it clearly wernt.

I had to replace the locking mechanism in the boot, since then I have had no problems what so ever.

    thanks Jav

what exactly did you have to replace? was it the whole mechanism or just the sensor?

I am going ot dry it all out and get some WD40 in there tomorrow to see if that clears it.

nope not the sensor, its the locking mechanism in the boot.
the mechanism that opens and closes the boot.

i got mine from audi ... i think it was roughly £40 MAX.

i may have a part number somwhere? but im 99.9% sure that will sort your problem out as the problems you have stated were exactly the same.

ive got the part right here as we speak, the old 1. its the mechanism that open and closes the boot the problem usually lies with the mechanism failing and not locking properly.

hi, this is a common problem on the a3,s. the washer pipe freezes on the wiper motor and pops out slightly. when it thaws and you use the rear washers, it sprays the lock/alarm micro switch with water causing it to malfunction. if you remove the lock and dry it out and spray it with wd, it normally cures the prob. remember to push the washer pipe back on.

    Hi All

I tried what you said and bingo it seems to have sorted the problem. I took the plastic panel off (even managed to not break anything too!!) and then had a look around.

washer pipe to wiper motor had indeed come off a little and it was very wet in there.

I took apart the lock mechanism and dried it all out with the hairdryer as well as spraying all the electric parts with WD 40.

the switch to the lock area had gone a bit blue so clearly water had got in there.

all nice and dry as well as lots of WD 40 and no more alarm woes. DIS not showing boot open too so happy days.

saved me a new battery and a trip to the stealers too so thanks Audi-sport.net.

very good for a first time visit ;-)
