airbag problem

took off the steering wheel today, when i put it back on i got an airbag light on the dash, did a scan with vagcom no error codes, tried to connect to airbag module and it said no response from controller, any ideas

Did you touch anything at the back of the column as you may have disturbed the wiring to the steering cu, does your horn work, is it an mfsw & if so do the controls work, is it tip if so do the paddles work.

1 idea, unplug the battery for 10 minutes, then plug back in & check for errors thrown.

thanks for reply, horn works, no mfsw, and no paddles, disconnected battery for an hour last night, did a scan after and no fault codes relating to airbag, steering, instruments or abs, still won't communicate with controller

Huh, but you still have full functions of the stalks for headlights, wipers, indicators etc?

Everything works just the airbag light on dash and no response from controller did notice when I started it yesterday 3 beeps from behind me somewhere

If you go into the steering module 16 & 17, check Fault Codes, does it show anything there?

What did I read recently about the airbag module access, urrmm if I recap I'll post.

Have got me then mate, as never had this come up & neither has my mate with an A4 after taking airbag of even with battery connected still.

Any ideas, are there limitations to vcds where a main dealer would be able diagnose

TBH mate vcds & vas5052 both have limitations & the only real difference is VAS can connect, when subscribed, to germany for immo stuff etc, but ref your issue, it would be cheaper for you, than going to a dealer, to get another airbag controller on of ebay that hasnt fired, although a fired one should still work to connect to just to test access only & try swapping it out to see if yours has indeed gone, could be a wiring issue aswell.

Another guy had this other day & me & mate could only advise the same, if he had another controller we could swap over & test, if that didnt work then it would point to wiring mate.

I'm getting a new controler of ebay for myself to upgrade to dual stage, fairly cheap aswell.

Yes mate center console hidden under the ashtray/climate area, its bolted to the chassis in that area iirc, so center console out, not a hard job just time consuming.
