But we were all young once, weren't we??

In 1988 when I re-built my black Mk1 XR2 complete with twin down draught webers and PECO big bore mild steel-rusty-in-week exhaust (full system with manifold £200!) I was the coolest dude in town.

That's the problem, part of getting old is finally realising that you were actually the ONLY person that thought you were cool (except your other PECO buddies).

Now I look back, smile, and think what a TVVAT!

Unfortunately when I was 17, I was the only one of my 10 friends that had a car, now all of them would have big bore Saxo's on 0%!

They are death on a stick, everyone I know that has had one/has one (including my brother) have been knocked off more than once

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Knocked off ?
Did it result in death ?
    No.
So they're not "death on a stick"

In over 20 years of driving and riding bikes I've seen several people I know killed in cars.

Never had to attend the funeral (touch wood) of anyone as the result of bike accident though.

    See those cars ?
Death in a can they are.

I once heard about a guy that spoke the words crotch rocket and he died on the spot - they're THAT dangerous.

In fact I heard the only person that can look at a motorbike and not die is the god that is Chuck Norris

heh heh heh!!! Ahhh, purport to like them............you crack me up!

I never rode my blade at anything above 8k in towns as it scares people (and eats children at anything above 10k)

still, liking bikes doesnt mean i like them running at high revs, at speed through towns surely you cna understand that?

just as much as I too think overly noisy cars are an annoyance,

so, from your posts so far it would seem you hate noisy cars but equally noisy bikes are ok? as where you live there a fewer of them?

No,if you read my posts I'm just as hard on noisy bikes as I am on noisy cars.

My 'problem' is the fact that bikers are often prosecuted for noisy exhausts, yet cars go unchecked.

I'm not even saying the bikers shouldn't be prosecuted.
I'm saying there should be equality and both should be done.

I've quizzed a copper over this and he admitted it's an 'ease of prosecution' thing.

One can see a "not for road use" stamp on a bike's silencer, whereas prosecuting a car driver often involces taking the car to an approved testing station for examination.

So,basically,we all have to suffer noisy cars because the coppers cannot be bothered.

    Nothing new there then...

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's top banana, just come back from a 100 mile round trip to Cambride on the A14, I particularly like the way the cars in my rear view mirror get very small very quickly! The production map isn't as economical as the original development map, so we're looking at a fixing that in the next couple of weeks. But a 200bhp+ diesel that does 42mpg on a fast run isn't too bad. Whereas before it was a 187bhp diesel which did 50+mpg on the same fast run, which would you prefer? I like the idea of switching between the two, watch this space........

Nice bike debate boys, they always scared the bejabers out of me, which is why I never had one.

The idea of catching my knee on a kerb as I went round a corner always made me wince.

Respect to the guys who can ride them well though.......

What were we talking about originally? We seem to have drifted off topic un peu.

well i think i fit the tw@t description...

    a - second car is a 911with 3.8 rs motor
b - have a noisy exhaust which cost a stack and gave zero extra bhp

a car has to sound right in my opinion - barking and popping on overrun ideally :)

needless to say a four pot diesel will never sound good with an aftermarket exhaust! - and regards to extra power with diesel exhausts - the flow nature at low revs in a tdi shows naff all gain in power... that said a larger diameter section just after the turbo will increase turbine wind up a little
