Keep the standard box, makes no difference getting one of the performance ones on a car like this, only thing you will gain is noise and what you will lose is money from your pocket and quite possibly some power, if no difference at all....

Some examples worth having a look at,:

also there are some nice ones going for £120 with lifetime warranty, however what others have been saying is that its extra money for no extra gains really, only sound!!

the main debate is around the fact that your airbox has a cold air feed, if you change to cone filter the cold air will be mixing with hot air from the engine (unless you can make a totally seperate surround which would be a hell of a job.... this regardless shows no change as a member did some testing wirth various air filters on a rolling road..... even minus an air filter (removing the restriction)

end result is noise and (in my mind) less power as cant see how you can benefit from leting warmer air into the engine

best thing to do is modify your air intake, reposition ideallly

Has there been any proven benefit to modifying/repositioning the air intake, and where is the best place to put it?

Im a bit unsure as whether it made much difference fella, Ess three was the one who did the majority of testing on the S3 at what sounds like great expense to himself...... he had a 4" pipe running down to the front bumper where the left hand SMIC sits, obviously he had an FMIC coupled with the drivers side SMIC to improve cooling which allowed the removal of the passenger side SMIC - seem to remember him saying this was the weak spot of the S3's induction in a more scientific manor than i have:search:

Not the best way round to do it. I would have thought that any gains will be minimum. They do make a nice noise though :)

    Report back.
