Air-Con

[Just Plain Old]

Quite literally...........

The air-con on my S4 has packed up. Audi dealer quoted £1,300 to replace the compressor,,,, yes that's right £1,300....!! And I thought I was used to main dealer extortion!!

Any suggestions..??

Find a local aircon specialist. Dealers know sweet FA about aircon anyway, they'll just keep replacing parts until it works again. Audi don't make any of the parts in your A/C system either and as most cars have aircon as standard now all the parts have come down dramatically in price with more companies doing refurbs as well. A compressor should be about £150 tops plus a couple of hours of labour

Cheers, are you sure about this couple of hours labour? The dealer said the engine had to come out!! (I was thinking '********' as I was hearing the words,,,but...)

Also £700 was the price of the compressor!!

I'd like to think you're right, but I fear (on this occasion) you may be wrong.....

When my old B5 compressor seized up Audi quoted £640 + vat for the compressor i got one from a motor factors with a new dryer for £320 inc vat. Took about 2 hours to fit as the bumper had to come off to get to the dryer.
