It looks like the compressor on my R reg 1.8T has just died. The stealers have quoted just short of £900 (with a 10% discount) to fix which really isn't worth it I don't think.

I know the parts for this are very expensive so do I have any other options?

If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing in the East of England I'd much appreciate some input.

I've had the whole climate control system replaced in the last couple of years (thankfully not all at once). This included the compresor, dryer, heat exchanger and some other bits. I went to an aircon specialist (Audi know sweet FA about aircon). It has cost me about £1k in total and all the parts were OEM (Audi don't make any of the parts for the aircon system). They also charge less for re-gassing.
I'd strongly recommend getting your system checked out with a specialist before committing to anything, and certainly don't get Audi to do th work unless under warranty.
My wifes S reg 1.8T (60k miles) has had no problems with the aircon yet, but my A4 has done twice the mileage and is 2 years older. The specialist I used in Southampton also said you should use climat control all the time (the Mr Frosty button) as if turned off for lengthy periods it can dry out the pipework joints and cause them to crack & leak.

Oh! my air con id up sihts creek! who do you use?

Are they large, wondered if there would be one in my area! sounds like they know their siht!

No they're quite a small specialist in Totton, Southampton called Auto Electrical Services. They were recommended by my Audi specialist. All they do is Aircon. There on 02380-227159.
