Hi folks Im a newbie here so please forgive a dumb question maybe. I have recently bought an R reg A3 with a 1.8 engine. This morning I have small puddle of water on my drive, its definately water and doesnt taste of antifreeze.

It appears to be coming from the right front lower spoiler area below the rad. and lower rad hose. The rad and hoses appear dry with no leaks. Im therefore wondering if this is some sort of drain for the air con? Is it normal?

    Thank you in advance
    Mark

Sounds like the rad tap leaking to me. Air con pump is over the other side of the engine, so I can't see it being that.

    Have you got headlight washers?

Thanks for the replies its the right side of the car as I stand infront of it ie an offside leak. Theres no headlight washers on my model.

Have a look at the rad tap first then.... That's where it live, on the bottom at the back of the rad.

Thanx Welly I will recheck. I ran my hand all round there this morning and all felt dry. If it was from the rad tap wouldnt the water taste foul from the anitfreeze as it does in the top up bottle? There is a pipe coming over from the air con pump thingy down to the general area of the leak. Let you guys know how I get on, thanx so far.

I would guess so, he put quite a bit in that bottle according to that article. if there was only a inch of coke, and 2 inches of anti-freeze on top, then that must be 150 ml.

Talk about a prank gone wrong....

He will do when he's getting buggered by bigger boys for 7 and a half months (which is what he will likely serve).

Don't drop the soap pal.... Bon Voyage.

LOL, nah it was only a finger taste. Well ive had a look and the rad tap is dry, the water has evaporated from the drive without staining. No antifreeze lost when looking at the expansion/fill bottle. Back to the drawing board I guess.

I was about to mention the "doesn't taste like antifreeze" comment, but will now refrain.

If it's straight water then it will be the climate control, run the car for 10 minutes on a hot day or so with the A/C on and it will piss water out. The A/C system takes all the moisture out of the air and it has to go somewhere, totally normal, nothig to worry about. There's no other area of an engine that will leak pure water.
