I have had an aftermarket xenon kit fitted in my facelift A33 for over a year now and it passed the last MOT fine but I have one tomorrow and I'm starting to worry a little wether or not it'll pass if there have been changes. They don't dazzle any oncoming drivers. Has anyone experienced the same thing recently?

Had my MOT test a month ago, they said the changes will come in the next year or two ... they were skeptical as there's no defined way of testing the auto levelling or washer systems.

Will be ok for the moment unless they're pointing in a queer direction.

    Eh?

Turn the lights on and they go though their self level check, this can clearly be seen, as for the washers, just make sure the headlights are on when they test the windscreen washers - the headlight washers should work at the same time.

Personally I would be using another tester… unless you are just after ‘a ticket’.

The official rule on aftermarket xenons is:

The kit has to hold an "e" stamp (if you are unable to see it you have to assume it does, mot guidelines is when in doubt pass and advise)

This is where testers make mistakes...IF the car has auto self levelling and headlight washers then they must work however you cannot test something which is not there at all.

They must also be set to the correct level and not be a stupid colour i.e. not ridiculously blue.

I've been a tester for the last 3 years, the new rules still do not have a date as to when they come out so in any case you shouldn't fail on them

Headlight washers are usually obvious with holes in the bumper, I think that the main point was the level controller, might very well cycle the motors up and down on power up, however if someone has broken the auto level sensors or they're duff the lights will never adjust given an alteration in the car's balance ... should they be putting a pile of paving slabs in the boot???

Unfortunately if it does have them they have to work properly

It passed just fine. He did mention that come next year the car will have to have headlight washers if the xenons are installed.
