    Me again, asking about pumps.

My injector pump is FUBAR'd so I'm on the hunt for another injector pump, now all the part numbers are the same except for the last letter - mine is A - can I find one that ends in A anywhere? No!

I've been offered a whole running car but the pumps ends in an D, typical. Will it work? What can really be that different?? I have access to other parts as I'll be buying the car as a whole so would I need to change any other parts to make the 'D' pump work?

    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, Etka lists both DX and AX versions (X being exchange) then says this:

    affects manual gearboxes from model
    year 1999 and older:
    for evp 059 130 106 d/dx in combination
    with engine control unit 4d0 907 401 d
with version d025 and smaller, the
    evp 059 130 106 a must be installed.
    (mkb: afb)

Given these all eventually pack up, is there any point buying a used one? Just send yours away and have it fixed?

That's the two part numbers. I would get it fixed but it's the mechanical side of mine that's bust rather than the ecu side.

I suspect if you chuck a D pump on it'll be fine.

I've no idea what the audi message about ecu version is all about though.

The D version used a later, revised pump EDC and it has higher pressure head + the ECU is mapped to compensate. Technically it might run but i have tried to swap pump with E on the end with slightly later versions and they would not code to the ECU as there is different hardware internally !

I was under the impression the pump wouldn't need to be coded to anything, just plug n play?

It may still be worth getting it repaired.

Diesel Bob does these pumps -electrically and mechanically and at least you know it will fit without coding or hassle and should last a while.
Addamss24 is the resident 2.5 man here - his words are worth heeding and he is also good for parts.

AFAIK the pump may or may not need coding depending on the type of immo fitted.

I've sent an email off to diesel bob so hopefully he'll get back to me with a decent price but a local diesel place wanted some serious laughable price so fingers crossed.

Nice to know there is a 2.5 guru here :)

Addamss24 - I've been offered the whole car so of course swapping the whole engine is an option. Is there gonna be much of a struggle in reference to electronics etc

If you've got the whole car you might just need to swap the pump and ECU?

Because the pump is different or if I change the engine?

I had my pump reconditioned 5 years ago by an ex-Lucas bloke, Diesel Dave, has been great since. I can recommend having it overhauled if £600-£700 range is an acceptable price to pay for peace of mind

While on the subject of 2.5tdi. My ECU is too old to be mapped. Is there an option of a later ECU which I could fit, or would the one from a FL B5 quattro fit and work?
I have the AFB engine 150BHP FWD.

You could technically fit a passat v6 tdi ECU + pump code AKN and code the instrument cluster + the dash wiring loom from a later a6 but there might be issues with the ABS coding... I would just get the existing ECU fitted with new chips and be done with it !
