Can anyone tell me if the wiper arms (front and back) and blades from a B6 A4 Avant will fit a B5 Avant ? Specifically the aero type.

    Cheers

I've purchased the Aero wiper arms / blades of the B7 A4, to fit to my B5. My car's a saloon, but they fit perfectly.

B6 wipers do not fit on the B5, I know because I bought some cheap from germany and had the ball ache of getting them to fit!.
The VAG parts kit is made up of Passat arms.

I had B6 arms on mine and they required a small conical adapter on the wiper motor splined shaft, the wipers themselves are better and look nicer than the passat ones but they usually sit on a bigger shaft.

rear one is a straight swap

I went to VAG in the end as they are about 3/4" too long.

if B7 fron wipers work I would be interested though

Got mine from VAGparts too - this is the best pic I've got to see them. No close-ups tho I'm afraid.

Not wishing to keep steering this away from the wipers... But did you need the new adjustment motors when you bought your new clusters too Justin? I'm thinking I might change the lights on mine at some point. I'm quite impressed with the light-output on the pre-facelift lights if I'm honest (they're much better than the pre-facelift lights I had on my 8L) but they are a bit fugly...

    Regards,

    Rob.

Yep - got from the same place as the lights but you can get them from VAGparts too IIRC.

Not wired mine up yet though

    Ok Lads,

Coming back to those wipers, do the VAGparts ones fit the prefacelift?

Nope. Well, I didn't anyway. The wiper shafts weren't splined on mine - they're locked on by the nut so line them up before tightening the nut!

hate to burst the bubble, they are VW passat wipers in the pic.
easiest way to tell is they are offset, the wiper runs parallel to the arm and above it not as an extension.

    http://images.worldcarfans.com/articles/2006/12/22/7061222.003/7061222.003.1M.jpg

These are B6, the run straight out from the arm and the arms themselves have slots cut into them, totally different....and they dont fit.

the wiper motor shafts on B5 cars may not appear splined but they are very slightly, they still require a pressure fit from the nut forcing it down though

    This is what turned up this morning;

    Part numbers

    1J2 955 426 B Blade (front)
    3B2 955 425 E Blade (front)
    3B2 955 410 C Arm (front)
    3B2 955 409 C Arm (front)

    6Q6 955 425 A Blade (rear)
    6Q6 955 707 C Arm (rear)

Not to bothered what model they came off, so long as they fit, and look ok.

Oh well, stand corrected - what I do know is they're a damn sight better than the original wipers at clearing the screen, especially at speed. And quieter.

they are indeed, I have them also. well worth the money even if your old ones aren't knackered.

i just had a new screen fitted, nothing wrong with the old one just lots of tiny pits from stones, grit.

like being in a new car!! i can see now!

LOL. I've been thinking about making a claim for a screen on my insurance - mine's peppered with marks. Did you go thru your insurance or pay outright?

Yeah I got a new windscreen fitted a year or so ago too. Was amazing. Not a mark on it and I did not want to use the wipers for a little while to keep it super clean.

    insurance.
it had a "mysterious" hole in the passenger side. apparently someone took a hammer and 4 inch screw to it one night. remarkable that it was already booked in to the window shop and repaired so quickly!!

Ok the wipers and arms are on. I'll post picks when it stops pissing it down. They were easy to fit.... but the old ones were a pain to get off due to the 12 years they'd been on.

    Cheers Auroan !

    Waiting to see the pics.

By the way I am getting a bit frustrated about my windshield which has a lot of scratch marks from my wipers movements(well you know after 12 years of service, you get scratchs).

Do you know a good DIY product to remove the scratch so that I manage to see more in a weather like the one now?

    Cheers,

But you will need to pay excess - mine is £60 now :(

I fitted just the repacement flat wipers from ebay. They are very good but dont look as good as the full vagparts kit. I think I might get a set as well. The difference with aero wipers is amazing.

Yes, excess has to be paid, no different to any regular car claim.

Mine's £75. Still, better than the regular cost of replacement - about £260 without insurance.
