Acoustic windscreen, or not?

I think it is related to how far the wipers should travel. At least on my car they stop more or less at the arrow in the marking

I always thought it was to mark the end of the additional tinting of the screen in the sunstrip (vertical end so it doesn't encroach on field of vision, not horizontal end i.e. sides).

Acoustic windscreens will have either what looks like an ear with an arrow/semaphore going into it, or it will (like on some of the bigger, higher spec Audis) simply have 'acoustic' written into the silkprint.

So Glassman, are you saying that there's nothing on Pintman's screen to indicate that it's acoustic glass? Not even the "A"?

I supposedly have acoustic glass on my A3 (comfort pack). I can see it clearly has the sunband across the top, but there are no other markings to suggest it is acoustic, such as the ear symbol or 'A'. Starting to wonder whether it really is acoustic now.

Problem is the first pic I took is of an A3 with no comfort pack so no acoustic windscreen, but still has an A on it. Looking online, this website gives a bit of info on deciding windscreen markings:
Car Windshield Markings: names, sample images, meaning

Ok, it's from the states, but gives a bit of info about what each marking is. Also read somewhere that the number and dots at the bottom of the info correspond with year and month of manufacture.
If this is correct, then there appears to no visible difference, apart from the sun strip, to distinguish between the acoustic windscreen and a normal windscreen.

I don't have comfort pack but you still get acoustic windscreen with light and rain sensors

The first picture was from a car that had no light/ rain sensor either. Bog standard A3 SE 1.6 Tdi. Confusing!!

I have the light & rain sensor as part of the Comfort Pack - therefore I should have an Acoustic Screen.

I'm not entirely convinced the symbol bottom left is an "A",

I'm still trying to get my dealer to get a final answer from Audi Germany as to whether I have an acoustic windscreen, I don't think I have, as there are no markings, and, an acoustic windscreen when tapped with your fingers should sound much duller than tapping a side window, mine sounds the same. When I tried the tapping test on an Audi with "Acoustic" marked on the windscreen the difference was obvious.

    Hi folks,

First post so go easy on me!

There seems to be no requirement to mark a windscreen to indicate wether or not it has acoustic glass or not.
Some manufacturers put 'acoustic', some an 'A', some a symbol of some sort, and others don't bother at all.
Generally speaking there is about 2-3% reduction in noise if one is fitted.

I ordered the comfort pack on mine, after reading this post I couldn't recall seeing the shade band! I've not got the car yet but I did manage to take a few picture of it before it got taken away.

Looks like the shade band is on there!?!?! Thought it would be lower than that TBH. I'll have to check the glass code on collection.

Haven't looked at this on the new car yet but will do so tomorrow. Got a funny feeling the windscreen on mine is Pilkington.

    That would be unusual.

AGC up till now is the OE supplier for the 8V in Europe.

Pilkington would supply an aftermarket screen, so, has you car had a replacement screen?

Having started this thread in March, my dealer originally said the windscreen was not acoustic, Audi
UK said it was, and the factory, after many months also said it was. However, my Pilkington screen did not have either the word Acoustic nor the ear symbol, nor when tapped did it have a deeper sound than my side windows, like an acoustic screen is supposed to. I tapped the screen of a couple of A6s at my dealers, both of which had the word acoustic on their screens, and the different sound compared to their side windows was obvious. A couple of months ago I needed to have my screen replaced, and requested an acoustic replacement; Autoglass couldn't find an acoustic version listed. So, after all that, regardless of what the factory say, I don't believe either my A3 Saloon, nor probably any others, come with an acoustic screen, but that's just my opinion!

Is it possible that you're all misreading the wording as

    The package also includes
(a windscreen with sunband for improved insulation of the windscreen and acoustic glass for reduced outside noise.)
    when in fact it's

    The package also includes
(a windscreen with sunband for improved insulation of the windscreen) and (acoustic glass for reduced outside noise.)?

ie the acoustic glass is referring to the glass in the rest of the car, not specifically the windscreen?

For reference, every other window in the car is AGC, it's only the windscreen that's Pilkington.

Don't think so, as both Audi UK and the factory say it's an acoustic windscreen.

It states, in the link, that acoustic glass has a special layer between the two layers of glass. It's actually a triple-layer of PVB sandwiched between the two. Perhaps it's their translation, or perhaps there is a more to it...

There's a bit of a to-do within the aftermarket distribution business. Something to do with the supply of acoustic glass which is *marked* on the label as so, but 'tests' have shown that it is *not* acoustic glass.

I am told that the A signifies accoustic.

I recently had my windscreen replaced, and the first one they appeared with didn't have the A or any Ears.
The fitter was on the phone to Audi for nearly an hour, and they confirmed it wasn't accoustic.
He ordered the correct one, and came back three days later to fit it.
