Ever since ive owned my car, the ABS has gone daft when pulling away from a standstill and when travelling <5mph.

Very strange and annoying.

Any ideas?

(Small amount of research reveals dirty sensors could be at fault - Is this a possibility?)

Cheers.

I had this and it was a faulty wheel speed sensor. a quick scan with VCDS should tell you which one it is. There is also a way to log all 4 wheel speed sensors on VCDS so you can see which one isn't behaving properly.

I did that but they all read the same?

I occasionaly get a fault code on NSF sensor but im not sure its that tbh.

My problem manifested itself after I'd fitted a Euro Car Parts wheel speed sensor to get rid of the traction control light because the old sensor died. 3 months later I was getting the ABS kick in as I slowed below 5mph. VCDS showed nothing but logging all 4 values at different speeds highlighted that the ECP sensor wasn't working correctly. I bought a genuine audi sensor and not had the issue since.
