A6 & Passat Shocks the same?

Hi im after some new rear shocks for my 98 A6 and have been offered some Passat ones and have been told they are the same, is this correct?

Even an A6 will have different dampers from one model to another, you would need to give me the part numbers so I can cross ref the dampers.
