    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good clutch specialist. My clutch has recently started slipping only after having a new one fitted from Audi just over 2 years ago! ( Outside the bloody guarantee period)! I had a remap done prior to replacing the clutch and I have been reading a number of posts which suggest that this should not necessarily cause the clutch to wear prematurely.. especially as I did not opt for a harsh remap!
There are a couple of things I am considering at the moment - whether to go for an uprated clutch as opposed to oem to ensure it capable of handling the extra power/ torque (217 bhp/ 255 lbft) which I would expect the oem to be able to handle! Secondly, the best place in the London area to have it done... I really want to stay away from the dealers as I didn't expect to be change a clutch with barely 25,000 miles on it! Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

    cheers

Hi Del, unfortunately is not the Bhp causing the clutch slip but the torque and driver's input. I would suggest going for a Sachs SRE clutch and uprated pressure plate and keep the dual mass flywheel. You will get the best set-up whilst feeling like stock. Any more that what you have at the moment will require a single mass flywheel and up rated friction linings: kevlar, ferametalic or even puck style clutches. The only downside with these are harder pedal feel due to increased clamping pressure and snatchy take-up's, they will be hard to drive in traffic. If you want to drive mine fitted with a Southbend clutch and single mass flywheel then pop in to Muswell Hill, N. London. Did i mention the chatter you also get with SMF ? I can live with snatchy take- offs but the flywheel chatter does my head in...

Hi Adamss24, thanks for your advice - very much appreciated! Can you recommend anyone or where I can get the Sachs kit & fitted? I reckon with your advice, even if I got the clutch replaced with stock, the same situation would occur, so the uprated Sachs sounds like a good option? How much would it cost - all in?

    Thanks

I went for a TTV Racing Crome Molibdenum single mass flywheel and a Southbend rs4 stage 3 ferametallic clutch. I have a 5 speed gearbox in my a4 so that was the only way to get the larger 240mm clutch. Is not the flywheel that chatter is the gearbox. The brake pedal feel is nice, no different to stock however the bit is much, much harder. The flywheel was meant for a rs4 but drilled to fit the 4 cylinder crank.
